Self absorption & exploitation of others by abusing their good will are my two top signs of narcissism in anyone… I step away from them immediately when I can identify this selfishness in an adult. No need to apologize but just stop interacting even if its going gray rock when no contact isn’t possible

Please learn from my mistake. I went "no contact" with a narcissist but secretly hoped that the narc would change and our relationship would flourish. This "secretly hoping" was wasted time, wasted tears, wasted hope, wasted dreaming, wasted wanting, wasted everything. At the time, I didn't know that "narcs don't change". I should have done "no contact" and "emotionally forget about that person and emotionally moved on." (In my case, the narc was my father....so that is why I held out and hoped for reconciliation). Secretly 'hoping for the narc to change' lead me to a decade of anguish, sadness, and tears. this is very embarrassing to admit.

Thank u for ur honesty. I too went thru a period too 🤦‍♀️ Thank heaven I got thru, and still, we had great times. Im so sooo lonely so I was weak. Nothing happened or ever came of it. But I stupidly secretly hoped too. Glad THAT won't happen again!!😂😂❤❤❤❤😂❤ Thank u again for being so honest. Stay strong!!❤

I want so badly to go no contact with my narcissist mother. I feel so stuck in this toxic situation…she is an elderly widow who depends on my siblings and I to do everything for her, she refuses to do anything for herself. It’s reality causing my health to decline but I’m afraid of going no contact because I don’t want to put everything on my siblings and i fear I will lose my entire family.

It's so painful. I'm in the process of going no contact with my entire family. As the skapegoat I am repeatedly gaslit and lied too by my siblings and my mother is the central force controlling it all. It's so damaging. Every time something good is happening in my life, I get weighed down by them. It's so awful to have to cut ties with everyone. I feel very sad about it 😢

The amount of relationships I’ve been in where I’ve been the “listener” the one who’s less important, not respected ect is just exhausting. No wonder I’m exhausted and want to be alone all the time. I’ve recently had a friend try to come back and within a day they’re back to ignoring things I say about myself and just ranting about their own life too me and completely bypassing my stuff. Nothing uplifting to say. Just a negative vibe and no wonder they missed me bc I just work on my energy and peace while they’re chaos. That’s been every narc in my life. Always so busy with drama and chaos they need to vent about.

Now that I’m learning about how these patterns show up I feel like most my friends have been narcissistic, and I’ve had a lot of problems with feeling bad after our interactions. My mom is also difficult…could it be I’m surrounded by it because that was familiar?
@PaigeSquared
@PaigeSquared 13 күн бұрын
That's what it was for me. My mom has the white picket fence exterior. It took me decades to see, and believe enough, to entertain it as possible. Jonice Webb's work on CEN doesn't use the word "abuse" but that's what opened me up to seeing it at first.

One million % spot on Lisa! Such a great message - helping millions of people. Even the examples you throw out are exactly right! (from the perspective of child growing up in home that way & also from the viewpoint of the adult who has been on track to attract ppl (bosses, 'frenemies', etc.) later in life. After the rage & anger of narc awareness grief, I am slowly opening up to the reality that, yes, it is not their fault that they are also wounded adult children who did not chose to be in this predicament (a narc) but it is still their responsibility to heal their s--t & stop playing mind-games with empathetic people. God sees everything.

Thank you for making this video Lisa. It’s what I needed to hear. I’m on my healing journey as well, as I confront the shadow from childhood and as an adult, I married a woman who perpetuated the shadow and sensed my empathetic nature. Although I can’t diagnose someone, the way I’ve been treated strongly points to covert narcissism on her part. As I have learned about the typical negative ways people are treated, once you start writing down specific things and see it in black-and-white then you can realize you’re not crazy and you’re not delusional nor are you making it up, but that you are being conditioned in bad ways, to lose your good self, your love, your best traits. Rather than help heal the childhood pain it made it worse. Now I am taking more space from her is going to be helpful. To rekindle my true self and work towards self love abundance and to stop people pleasing and codependent traits. The analogy of chlorine toxicity, or perhaps even of nuclear radiation is definitely fitting, for as you’re spending more time around this person, you are being destroyed little by little Wow, I have “tried harder” for years without getting the results that I thought I would such as if I was at work or working on a personal challenge. Now I realize that this type of person doesn’t acknowledge they have a problem and so of course is not going to work on it at all but is just going to continue to blame you probably forever. And nothing changes.

I think I have been in a narcissistically abusive relationship for about 10 years now. I've been watching another channel, Dr. Kerry McAvoy's channel, and I think my boyfriend is, what she defines as a covert narcissist. I don't think he's the worst there could be, and ever since I recognized the issue and began looking for a way out, he's been trying to be better. But he will NOT communicate with me about problems, he's very mentally and emotionally immature, and I feel like I am more of a mother than a partner to him. I told him to get out of my apartment, but he won't leave. I'm afraid to call the cops, because I don't want to be retaliated against. I feel stuck.

@@amberinthemist7912 no, but he knows how to break in. I'm scared to call the cops because he is vindictive and I already lived through my best friend's cousin being murdered by her estranged husband stabbing her to death 27 times with a screwdriver in front of their (at the time) 9 year old son, after she left him AND had restraining order. I don't want to end up like Wendy did. She didn't deserve that, and I don't want to go through that.

Doing no-contact in a marriage is a different dynamic because the two partners live together in the same home. If the innocent one wants to leave and go no-contact, where do they go...if they have nowhere normal/healthy to go? How do they handle finances? The narc gets to stay in the home and may claim it then or change locks...how does all of that even work???

Go to your county domestic affairs office. They helped me. I had to get a PFA, and my husband was escorted off the property. I applied for free legal aid and they helped me. They got him to sign a 3 year agreement. During which, I filed for "no fault" divorce, even though it was his fault. I had to pay $100 for him to be served at work. He ignored all the paperwork. Eventually the timeline expired, and it was granted. I had to file for bankruptcy and I'm alone with a toddler, so I'm still picking up the pieces. But I'm not held hostage anymore.
