@@pciermakaveli9280 aliens from a distant galaxy are on their way to earth to colonize it and during the journey they send probes that create somewhat of a simulation here on Earth that lulls humans into defenseless state leaving us completely unprepared for their invasion.... It's got a lot more to the story, but that's about the jist of it... It plays heavily upon the Dark Forest hypothesis of the universe, that other civilizations in the universe prefer to remain quiet rather than send off radio signals into space like we do for fear that a more powerful and dangerous civil will detect their radio signals and choose to invade them

“Children, it’s time to go,” I really hope the series will reach up to this point! Cixin Liu, one of the the great, as he says: There’s a strange contradiction revealed by the naïveté and kindness demonstrated by humanity when faced with the universe: On Earth, humankind can step onto another continent, and without a thought, destroy the kindred civilizations found there through warfare and disease. But when they gaze up at the stars, they turn sentimental and believe that if extraterrestrial intelligences exist, they must be civilizations bound by universal, noble, moral constraints, as if cherishing and loving different forms of life are parts of a self-evident universal code of conduct.

I don't find the author's argument persuasive. It seems like a pretty simplistic extrapolation of human psychology, which has been - perhaps up until very recently - profoundly short sighted. I see no reason to assume that other minds would adopt the same myopic assumptions as us in their approach to interstellar game theory. I worry that works like this are an indication of how constrained our horizons still remain, and that they might be potentially self-fulfilling prophecies.

Humans are hawkish and expansive in some forms of civilization, but not all of them. Homo sapiens has existed for 200 millennia and we only had large-scale wars for the last 8. That's because of the calm Holocene climate in the last 8-10k years, which made it possible to grow enough food to feed armies... And that climate will inevitably subside. (Cheap hydrocarbons have also been a boost in the last 400 years, but those will also inevitably fail to meet exponential demand). A lot of our cynical, simplistic myths about human nature break down after looking at the evidence from archaeology and anthropology. If anyone's interested they can check out these papers: - Jerome Lewis "Egalitarian social organisation among hunter-gatherers: The case of the Mbendjele Bayaka" - Haas and Piscitelli 2013 "The prehistory of warfare: Misled by ethnography" - DeSilva et al 2023 "Human brains have shrunk: the questions are when and why" - Dyble et. al. 2015 - Sex equality can explain the unique social structure of hunter-gatherer bands, Science, May 2015

As an original work lover, I have to say Netflix doesn't understand Three Body at all... Or else how can they create shitty scenes such as Wenjie and Evans be together even with intimate scenes.... I totally don't understand........ Their relationship should be instructor and follower on a grand dream and firm belief. This is too shallow of Netflix. Not all audience want to see these kind of scenes OK? This is only one major problems, the overal feelings deviate like a 180 degree from the what Cixin wants to express... Now I know it's possible that people will choose ChengXin in the reality.🌚And I'm amazed to see that actors even don't read the original work before performance, isn't this a necessity for filming from a novel?? Haven't read these books (yet), but I'm really hyped for this show. I loved "The Expanse". It showed what human warware should look like 200 years from now. This will show what it should look like 2000 years from now? At least by the aliens.
@liamcore7203
@liamcore7203 4 ай бұрын
@@kimnice Well, the kind of concepts they are talking about, scientists can theorize on them today, but the tech for humanity would likely be millions of years in a future IF we were extremely successful. Humanity would have long since left the original flesh behind, moved their minds into constructs that can greatly enhance thought and processing power. Really, by book 3 of the trilogy it was like reading cosmic horror, its a kind of dread you feel for something that is really coming just due to the potentials that the universe has built into it by what our scientists best theories are today. This really is End Game civilization, or what Kardashev might have called a type 3 and above civilization. I loved The Expanse too, but it is so far removed from 3 body, any comparison would be misleading. No spoilers, but its very different and probably the most likely future sci-fi I have ever read.

What gets me about the story is how realistic it is. No foolish aliens invading like war of the worlds or superpowers aliens with one weakness like in independence day. I am so excited for a story with weight and a firm footing in possible reality.

Best tv series by netflix 😊 Forbes: That article also states that 3 Body Problem is actually Netflix’s most expensive scripted series ever at $20 million an episode. While I knew it was pricey, I absolutely would not have guessed that at all. Weiss and Benioff’s Netflix deal itself cost at least $200 million. Netflix has indeed killed off shows where they’ve done big deals with creators in the past, but they are usually far more reluctant to do so. This may be one of those cases, especially with a clear three book arc to finish. But again, at what cost? If episodes are $20 million apiece, and they’re doing eight a season ($160 million), that’s half a billion dollars for the entire trilogy. Again, it feels like Netflix is almost pot-committed, even if the show underperforms. And I absolutely think it’s still probably going to, but we’ll see how it progresses in time.

Nobody is dragged in via promotion because of authors. If you authored anything from any work, and if it were adapted, you'd understand it. It will be accredited ultimately. As far as I remember, George R.R. Martin was never in the promotional material for Game of Thrones, and he's never been more famous. This is a waste of anger. I'm sure the author of this series would agree, too. If you're a decent author, it's well enough that it's even adapted for the screen, silver screen, or small screen, and worldwide at that. No need for some crusade over nothing, now.

Lots of the obnoxious comments seem to center around the science of the science fiction, saying the ideas, though interesting, are improbable, unrealistic and downright fantasy. I just don't get why some commenters who can't accept the Chinese points of view on science fiction but can readily accept the science in Hollywood sci-fi such as those in Star Trek (warp drive, teleportation, etc.) It's akin to accepting Hollywood superheroes who can fly in all those superheroes movies but can't accept a Kung Fu heroes flying in Chinese Kung Fu movies. I've been a lifelong fan of classic sci-fi novels and series from Asimov, Heinlein, Niven, Herbert, Bradbury, Burroughs, Card and others, but Liu Cixin's Three Body Problem series blew me away! "Robust" is one of the key words I'd use to describe it, along with the typical descriptions of exciting, imaginative, thought-provoking, and more. There's a point right in the middle of the third book (usually the one that is a stretch in most series!) where a character creates and tells a mythical tale, and the quality of the myth is just incredible, let alone how critically and creatively its used within the larger story context! The range and vision Cixin has is amazing. I cannot recommend the books strongly enough! Its going to be a tall order for a series to do justice, but Netflix will have my money for sure on this one.

If you're simply a fan dramas, then it's a good watch. However, if you've already watched the Chinese version, you might be slightly disappointed with this one. Many scenes in the Netflix adaptation are not as impressive as before, and even though it's only eight episodes, they shouldn't have rushed through many parts. It's a real pity. Additionally, despite Netflix investing a high budget in special effects, they don't appear to be more impressive.😂😢😅

The Chinese TV series adaptation is 30 episodes long and (I believe) covers the entire contents of the 1st book. (I haven't read them yet). It is definitely worth watching if you can find a copy. Online it says that each episode of the Netflix version cost US$25 million, so I doubt there will be more than 10 episodes in the 1st season. and I wonder how much material they can squeese into that? fingers crossed they haven't changed it too much.

At 1:28 you can clearly see the radio telescope from the first novel, and it then cuts to the girl from the book looking up at an officer with a communist red star on their hat. The original novels were written by a Chinese author for a Chinese audience, and this series is written for an international western audience. So I don't mind if they change the nationality of some of the characters. Depending on which characters they change and how they change them, they could still ruin the story, but that remains to be seen.@@sayanorasonic
