Every adult and teen should know how to cook basic foods in a saucepan or skillet on top of a one burner campstove. Could you make meals if given a bag of raw potatoes or raw rice or dried beans or a dozen raw eggs? Without using a cookbook or a recipe card? If you practice enough , you too could become skilled enough to make cornbread , biscuits, quick bread and gravy from scratch and by memory.

I’m actually surprised how many have no idea how to cook. I’m not talking about making delicious food but simply not raw or burnt. Shocker.

@@user-bi8ko7kc6h I learned in Junior high home economics class...and from my siblings before I got jobs in fast food restaurants flipping burgers. My favorite cooking tool was the can opener. Even then, my Mom gave me the "Good Housekeeping" cookbook so I could make something other than hot dish. I then got married and my (now ex) husband liked to cook. He bought me an Indian cookbook by Julie Sahni which was great! He did it because then he could take a break and have some yummy Indian food. My Mom didn't really cook or have time to. I do like to cook and have been learning more from KZfaq channels! I like the Townsends and Spain on a fork currently.

Backup transportation is a must, I am not going to rely on fuel based vehicles to get me around. 30 gallons of regular gas was 100 bucks on Friday. I am looking to buy 2 EBikes, that I can recharge with solar, as my main form of transportation. Vevor sells a cart I can attach to the rear, and I can tow up to 1500 pounds, well the cart is rated at 1500. The Price for 2 Ebikes 1000, and the cart 250.

Boy, I will tell you that everything that can happen in a life is easier when you have extra, let alone impending war and probably shortages and rationing. I have had job cuts, unexpected expenses, bad weather, injuries, you name it. Just in the last year I have had water outages, power outages and family moving in unexpectedly. (That has happened several times.) All of these have dug into my preps when I thought I had enough, so I replaced what we used and keep adding more, because I am not sure there really is ever enough. Now I am laying in more preserved potatoes. We need to pay attention to the news; look into what will happen to the potato farmers in Idaho; we will be short on potatoes after next year and the rest will be even more expensive.

Every video of yours I watch I'm reminded to organize and organize and organize 😂 Had a small fire few miles away a few days ago ... I thought oh crap I need to prioritize what to throw in the back of the truck. Already have club cab of truck packed with 3-5 days of food, water, bedding, tent, cooking, medical supplies. Think I'll right and post a "to take list" Critters, food water, cages, extra fuel for truck ECT Looking for a small trailer I can prepack "camping trailer"

Dehydrator questions: Does the dehydrator you mentioned ( didn’t catch the name) work without throwing off additional heat? Does it work quietly without that constant humming ( motor/ air movement). Is the finished result the same as Auguson Farm dehydrated foods? How long is the shelf life of a home dehydrated food? What about the odor of the dehydration process? I found that kale ( for powder). Onions, and even tomatoes have an odor that the household notices. Our house is so small that this was a consideration. For example, we live in a one story 800 sq ft home without a basement or garage. I sure would appreciate your tips and suggestions. In the meantime I am buying from the LDS and Auguson Farms. Thank you! 💗

I think the one she mentioned was Magic Mill. You might get answers to your questions by going to Amazon (or another shopping site) and reading the reviews on that and other dehydrators. Your questions are valid, you’re being very considerate of others in your household. I’ve known some people who use their dehydrator on a back porch. That wouldn’t work in a humid environment. Also consider outdoor options if your climate allows. Best wishes!
@leopardwoman38
@leopardwoman38 3 күн бұрын
I set my dehydrator on a patio table outside. I run an extension cord. Another thing to consider is when you dry onions, garlic, etc. dogs and cats can be affected by the fumes, so outside is good. Certain foods do fill the house with pleasant and unpleasant odors so again outside is good. My house is small, too. My dehydrator is a small round one. It sure saves food for later so there is less waste. Augason farms sells a lot of freeze dried food which is different that dehydrated food. They have some dehydrated as well. Freeze dried food can last 25-30 years if kept in a cool, dry place. Dehydrated food varies on the type of food. Oils are what causes food to spoil.

Learning and developing skills is important to do BEFORE you need the skills in an emergency. The internet might not be available for you to learn from nor might the people who have the skills to learn from. Think of all the knowledge and skills lost during the pandemic with all the older people dying. Garage sales are great for items. I just found a smaller cast iron dutch oven...brand new. Other things you can do which don't necessarily cost much money is to get your pets ready for any evacuation situation by helping them associate their kennels/travel bags with a place of refuge along with getting treats after they go somewhere (not the vet) in the kennel. If you are panicked, imagine how your pets might feel in the situation.

Good points. Preparing is something that everyone should do. Many think you have to spend a fortune on things like buckets of freeze dried foods to be a prepper but it is also just as easy and basic as buying things on sale or a can or two more of something you like and will use and put that aside as well. That is just smart planning and not doing something expecting a disaster. No one person knows everything so it's smart to learn something new and useful can be life saving too. You can go to your local county Extension service to get free gardening bulletins specifically for your area, and those are provided free. Good advice to buy what you will eat, so many said buy anything even if you don't like it and maybe you can barter it but that can be using money you need now for essentials especially since so many things are higher in cost. There are reports every day that some of the thiefs and burglars are more bold now and willing to do break ins and thefts even in the daylight hours so good to make sure your home is as secure as you can.

I don’t plan on bugging out……famous last words…always try to be realistic about “what if” situations “living the lifestyle”attitude that AG mentioned really hits home. My plan is for each family member has a bugout suitcase/duffel ready to grab, if time allows, the next thing to “grab” if time allows are plastic totes with additional foods and essentials and these have priority numbers taped on the outside, on mine they are number 1 through number 10, also they are in colors and a letter as a code known by the family, f for firearms, Fs for foodstuffs or maybe c for camping gear. The idea is if you have time grab the number 1 totes first and if time allows you can take more. Soooo very important to be familiar with what you have and also be proactive and current with what you have……..live the lifestyle and practice practice practice so if that scenario hits you are in automatic mode and successful. Blessings and love

I was recovering from a serious illness when covid hit and i was grateful that i had what i needed in my pantry so i did not have to go to the stores for several months. You never know what can happen so be it a pandemic, a personal illness or injury, a job loss or other scenerio having enough put up to get you through a crisis will help get you through it. Honestly if people didnt learn that thru the cv shutdowns and shortages i dont know what else would prompt them to do so.
