Tomatoes are the biggest offenders of leaks in my pantry. For some reason, apples are the second 🤷‍♂️

I had several cans of tomato paste that were a year past expiration date. Smelled & looked fine, but I put all of them on dehydrator trays & dried it into tomato bits , then powdered in my spice grinder and now I’m not worried about it spoiling and I can easily reconstitute it when I need it. A great reminder that there are lots of ways to preserve our items as they approach or pass their best buy date without throwing it away.

I must have done it wrong. I have to do that in the winter here because of the humidity. When I tried to do this with some that was also coming up on it's date, it didn't turn out right to me. I know it was me. Or the humidity was just too high in the winter. It turned out like a giant tomato fruit leather. How long did you dehydrate it and at what temperature, if I may ask?

Tomato paste is THE WORST. Worse than pineapple. I literally just got finished canning tomato sauce.. A ton of tomatoes and it netted me 6 half pint jars of tomato sauce. Anyway, I started paying more and buying tomato sauce and paste in jars for this reason. It costs more but, will last. That's worth the price. Plus, I get little jars out of it for herbs and tinctures.Great video, AG!!!!

@@AlaskaGranny EEK! I just looked it up. It's gone up a dollar a jar at vitacost. I use to buy it there and at Sprouts. The larger Krogers have it also. It's Bionaturae brand tomato paste. I guess I'll buy it till I can't. Because processing all those tomatoes to net such a small amount was disappointing.

Good review to bring to our attention because some of us are older and are pushing our limits of keeping our pantry stocked & within date. Saying this, please do more on the expired time of our stocks or must haves. I think I'm working on some science experiments myself. As an older person, I don't eat as much, but if I get ahankin for something, I want to have it & not be trying to get to a store. At this moment, I have been to 4 Aldis & they do not have half & half (their organic ) its the only one that does not have cartagena which is an inflammatory chemical added as a thicken agent. This is in everything & is bad. Happy 4th 🎉 Lets keep the Birthday for our country going, God Bless US ll. Stay safe!😊

I have had 2 canned corn leakages. It was not beyond it’s date but it did have those pop top lids. Kraut is also bad - watch for bulging can ends.

As you say A.G. cans aren't made like they use to be. Checking mine this week. Returned home after wildfire evacuations but still under warning. All the video tips on prepardness us helped get out quickly and with the right supplies.111° and new generator died, no a/c no trees at evac locations . THANKS A G ♥️ Happy 4th if July 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷

1st in 1st out. If it's dented, rusted, bulging, or leaking toss it out. It's better to throw it away If your not sure then it is to take a chance and get sick.

I found a can of pineapple that had gotten pushed way back in the pantry. The lid was eaten away and there was no pineapple just a tiny sticky puddle. We had a good laugh speculating where did the pineapple chunks go? Now I dont stock alot of canned fruit and keep my eye on the cans.

Of all the tomato products in my storage, tomato paste is the worst offender for making its way out of the can. The shelf life has significantly shortened in cans made after 2020. I feel lucky if the tomato paste makes it to the best by date. I once had a can that, when pierced by the can opener, shot the tomato paste 8 feet away against the wall. Obviously, it had gone bad.

Science experiment, indeed. It has happened to me. Tomatoes do tend to be an issue. And pineapple has been for me. The extra acidity, possibly? Yea, I would be sure to rotate either of those (or anything you've had trouble with) MORE often...just in case.

So far no but I do make sauce, out of my tomatoes, and waterbath can them in glass canning jars, what a bummer glad you caught it. ❤😊

I have only found a glass jar of mushrooms that has popped the lid and smelled like a nasty dirty diaper. Yuck.

I had tomato soup leak out and the can wasn't even close to the expiration date. The tin on the cans are horrible and anything tomato will eat through the can.

I inspected mine just today! Four years ago, I had bought a bunch of powdered baby formula for super cheap. Like a buck a container. It expired in 2021! I checked it and it’s all rancid. Tossing it all. That’s ok, I got it so cheap!

I actually bought it to supplement our diet in case society collapsed! At the time it wasn’t expired. Time to get rid of it.
