Thank you so very much for these recipes! I am in the United States, where it is recommended that we “ prep” for emergencies by, among other things, stocking canned foods. Canned potatoes have always been one of my least favorite of these items, but I stocked up on them, thinking that I would somehow make them palatable if the time ever arose...or I’d feed them to the dogs, lol! No longer, however! The 3 recipes look delicious and easy; and you have made me fall in love with this humble canned food, and have opened my eyes to endless possibilities for it’s use!

It's called *canned* 🥔 🚫 tinned 🤦♀️
@MamaKim.2 жыл бұрын
@@goldenbunny9079 This must be about the 20th identical comment from you correcting people! 🤦🏼♀️ Let me explain.. This video was created in England by an English Chef and in England, food that has been preserved by sealing without air inside a tin can is called tinned food. Tinned potatoes, tinned tomatoes, tinned tuna etc. Tin is a soft silvery metal which the tin can is made out of. Interestingly if you type the word ‘tin’ this emoji appears 🥫... a tin of food. We also have biscuit tins, a square or round tin container with a removable lid for storing biscuits 🍪 (cookies to you). The word ‘can’, as a noun, refers to a cylindrical metal container in which liquid is sealed for long term storage.. a can of coke, a can of lager. We would never say a tin of coke. A tin usually contains food whereas a can usually contains a drink. Both words get used when it comes to paint.. a tin of paint or a can of paint. As for “canning”, the process of treating food and drink for long term storage, that is purely an American term. We call the process ‘preserving’ as that is exactly what it is, a process to preserve food. As it is done at home it is always into a glass container, not a tin can, so we would never call it canning.

Hey Mama, love the idea of a beef fondue! It's not something I've ever heard of before. Would you place the potatoes on fondue sticks to cook too? And would you season them or the beef first?
@MamaKim.3 жыл бұрын
@@hedgecomber I can’t believe you’ve never had a beef fondue! I’m really showing my age!! The beef that you use is always fillet, cut into small cubes, unseasoned, you don’t do anything to it. Ditto the potatoes, they just go on a fork and cook in the oil just as you would the beef, just dry them off so the oil doesn’t spit. As they’re already cooked they’re great as they just need to heat through and brown. You can do baby chipolata sausages too. After that it’s all the wonderful dipping sauces and some pickles too.. served in small dishes on a Lazy Susan so everyone can help themselves to some sauces on their plates. Side salads too. I’ve got fabulous sectioned stainless steel plates that sit in a wooden base, special fondue plates.. very retro! It’s a Swiss thing so you’ll be able to find lots of ideas online. The great thing is that the oil is heated with a methylated spirits burner underneath the pot so it’s ideal for a camping get together! Most important is the fondue forks have coloured ends so you can identify yours and never ever put the fork in your mouth! Take the meat off and put the next piece in. You usually have 2 forks each. Fondues are great fun!
