Excellent ideas and suggestions. The thing I would suggest is to try to keep a logbook, and when sprinting to try to mark your time so you have information about your improving regarding your sprint and how many times you can sprint per session. Some smartwatch can also help you to track your speed what actually can be another tool to track down your improvements in a natural way.

With me I’m very good technically. I can do my job very well but when I play a full game 11v11 or 7v7 I never keep the ball and try dribble past players… I always pass rather than trying to take on the defender which im fully capable of doing. I play in the midfield

I’m glad I ran over 20 5Ks before I got back into playing soccer as an adult after a long, long break from the game. Even though my skills are limited compared to many of the people in my pickup games who have been playing all their lives, having a strong cardio/running base is a huge advantage on the pitch. Especially when it comes to scoring goals, where speed and stamina are so important.

Ever tried suicide runs? Starting from goal line, going to six yard box, and then back to goal line, then to the edge of the box and back and so on for every line onwards on the pitch. They kill (hence the name) but are soo good for fitness!!

Training on your own is an important aspect. You do more in less time. Sometimes I see too many players getting together to do one training module, for example taking shots at a goal. You see a queue of players lining waiting for their turn to take shot. The problem is because there are too many players you spend more time waiting than actually practicing. The coach should be professional enough to structure the training modules properly. You spend two or even three hours at training but actually you spend less than half an hour really doing anything.

There is this really quick, but very tiring drill I use to improve explosiveness and cardio. You basically need four cones. Place one cone down, and walk forward about 5 steps and place another come down. After, walk about 20-30 yards forward and place another cone down, and place another cone 5 steps ahead. Now that you’ve set it up, what you wanna do? You start at one of the far cones, and walk to the one in front of it. Then you explode through the larger gap until you hit the next cone, which there, you walk to the last cone. Then you turn around. If you want it to be quick, do this for about 8-10 minutes, if u really wanna work yourself, 15-30 minutes.
