A (relatively) quick and simple guide/tutorial on getting the best results from your 3-Cup Chemex brew. I am no barista, and have essentially no professional training when it comes to brewing coffee, SO, take this whole thing with a grain of salt. Everything I say and do is just what I've done after watching almost every video guide and reading every coffee house blog guide I could find, trying them all out, and going with the things that work for me while still trying to simplify it so I wouldn't have to think too hard when I first get up in the morning. I'm still learning how to make videos, so I'm sure I could have done a lot better on that front as well, but I'm really enjoying the process so that's what I'll focus on. If you have any other questions or see things I missed, please let me know! THANKS!

Thank you for using the 3 cup Chemex. That is the one I purchased and I really like it but felt like maybe I should have bought the 6 cup. It is nice to see someone else making instructions for the 3 cupper. 😊

Nice guide. I would add a step to gently break up clumps of dry coffee with chopstick or spoon handle during the bloom and let it all degas, so you dont get large bubbles during the next pour.

Thanks for this, super helpful. What I find weird is how far the filter goes down into the chemex. I am unable to get past the nipple to make a full 3 cups because the filter goes down too low. Any tips? Am I folding wrong?

Great tips. Thanks for the video. Any tips on making the coffee hotter?? I find by the time all the pours are complete and it’s time to drink, that it’s lukewarm! Do you pre-heat your chemex with hot water ever? Cheers
@williamrockett405
@williamrockett405 3 жыл бұрын
Usually the rinse pour does a great job of warming the Chemex itself, maybe try adding more of the hot water when you’re doing that step and it could help. Thanks!

You have a scale but don’t have a coffee to water ratio ummm that’s not good Btw my favorite ratio is 18:1 For each gram of coffee i use 18 grams of water Ex 300 grams of water over 18 gives 16.5 grams of coffee First pour is 50 grams of water The second and the third are 125 grams Enjoyyyyyyyyyyy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Could you recommend a preferred coarseness type for the chemex 3-cup? I've heard 'medium-course' is right. Would you agree?
@williamrockett405
@williamrockett405 5 жыл бұрын
I find myself leaning more towards the coarse end of “medium-coarse,” but what’s most important is getting a consistent grind. If you have a lot of fines mixed in with the grounds, it’ll really throw off the brew and mess with your extraction no matter what setting you use. Really, it’s about experimenting to find the best grind that works for your grinder. Hope that could help a bit!

How happy are you with the 3 cup Chemex? A lot people say the 6 cup produces better results, but I mostly just want 1-2 coffees in a row. Maybe you can help me with my decision. Thanks! Also your video was extremely helpful and straight to the point.
@williamrockett405
@williamrockett405 5 жыл бұрын
I really like the 3-cup. I have the 6-cup as well and it definitely is easier to get consistent results from it, but if you can get good at the 3-cup, it lets you not have to use so much coffee every time you want a cup.

Do you recommend 6 cup over 3 cup chemex?
@williamrockett405
@williamrockett405 5 жыл бұрын
It mainly depends on how much coffee you want (seems obvious, I know). The 3-cup is great for one person when you don’t want to end up wasting those expensive, locally roasted beans, but I know plenty of people that can go through a whole 6-cup by themselves! The 6-cup is also a bit more forgiving with ratios, so that may be a plus too, but I almost always go for the 3-cup.

@williamrockett405
@williamrockett405 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do. Feel free to try a setting or two to either side, though. I noticed that after using that grinder for a while, the grind setting almost seemed a bit loose and will be slightly more coarse/fine depending on the direction I turned the bin.

I thought I was the only one taking crazy pills. This is our second grinder in three years because I experienced the same thing. It is the best grinder for the money, but I have noticed it does get a little loose overtime. It’s almost time to get another one. Thanks for the tips. I am working on them now.

Highly recommend leaving your boiling water for around 10 mins before pouring, or adding 15% more cold if you're making it immediately. Using boiling water leads to a burnt taste, but cool the water a touch and you'll avoid it
