Wow! Your conditions were a bit different to when I walked only as far as Sharp Cone (I had very limited time) - Feb last year, shorts, t-shirt, sunblock…so different to your tramp in June. Only wish I could have continued to the hut and overnighted. I’m a kiwi but have lived in the UK for many years, now returning for extended tramps (3-4 months earlier this year and back in November for another 3-4 months). I tend to look at the Topo map and assume I should just keep to the marked tracks but you show that isn’t always necessary as you walked over unmarked terrain. There’s nothing like finding your own route but you did seem to find unmarked tracks everywhere. I can’t believe how good conditions can be mid winter! I have to disagree with your preferring the Kaimanawas to the Tararuas or Ruahines!!! I just love both, partly I think because of the fantastic vegetation (other than the occasional Bush Lawyer and Ongaonga!). However it’s personal preference of course and there are similarities with great ridges above the treeline. Your stills at the end: were they taken with the GoPro? Really good quality throughout. You must about double your distance having to stop, set up the camera, walk, return to collect it…etc.! I look forward to the next production!

Another excellent video. Brought back wonderful memories of when I tramped the Kaimanawa Ranges a few times many, many years ago.

Cool video mate. Watch how close you light your fires to your tent, nothing worse than a stray ember putting a hole in your rain fly.
