With nothing but rain on the forecast, I head out into the woods for a 2-night camp out with only my Tarp for shelter. It's a wet and uncomfortable trip but overall a very rewarding experience.

Quick tip for anyone stuck on the rain that can't heat up rocks to keep near them due to rain or snow, you can boil water and put it in a nalgene and throw it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. Kept me warm in a blizzard for 2 to 3 hours at a time just fine when Temps got below my sleeping bag rating. In ideal conditions, using rocks will hold heat better and keep you warmer for much longer, but probably best not to put em in your sleeping bag and jusy kind of hug em through a coat or something.

Dude I love how you don’t gloss over the suck that is involved in so many camping adventures. A lot of these camping KZfaq channels make it seem like fantasy land out there. Just wanted to say you are so right. I went on some pretty miserable FTX’s in the army and I got poured on and didn’t pack well my first time and I was shaking all night and barely slept. I went home the next day and I was the most grateful person in the world to have a warm house and warm food. I really do think if everyone spent one night in the woods they would appreciate what they have a lot more.

Xander- This is the second video of yours I have seen, and idk what about this one impacted me so greatly, but your personality and wise words amidst a hard/rewarding experience like this really stuck with me. I’m a college student working full time in Seattle and COVID really zapped the life/fitness out of me. Seeing this motivated me to continue training hard and even get back out in the back country again this summer. I appreciate the work you do and hope you know it’s making a much bigger impact than just aesthetically pleasing camping vlogs (which you also make the best of too). -Sam

I began to describe is as such, going on this kind of trip to the nature is hard, both physicaly and mentaly, but its so much more rewarding than the kind of obstacles that you encounter in your normal life. Doing taxes or trying to complete all the paperwork for building permits is much more draining and without such immediate reward. Its primal, life simplified into Its purest form, well almost.

Fantastic to see a wild camper wearing wellingtons around camp. I totally recommend wellingtons, easy to slip on and off, protect your legs from brush and undergrowth, good against rain and snow or fording small streams. I have never seen them recommended by any wild camper video but seriously you can even hike 5 miles in wellingtons and good in winter as well if you put old newspaper or foil based insulation in the bottom.

It poured like hell for 5-12 hours at least, it was cold and windy and definitely didn't feel so good back then (sleeping soaking wet, tired, fire barely going on because everything was WET) but now I remember all that as being horrible and awesome at the same time! I'm glad you don't hide away the troubles of camping in such weather. Keep up the good work! Cheers from Transylvania!

Depending on the pitch of your tarp, tying a short length of cord to the tab will function as a drip line. The drip line divert the water from running along your tarp. I've used this strategy to stop water running down the suspension for a hammock and I imagine it could also work well for tarp shelters!

The experience of real nature in one of its faces in open surroundings. Just amazing feelings as no one disturbs you neither your friends nor your mobile phones, keeping away from all these and wondering nature is a real life experiences

Nah bears are attracted to the smell of food not humans, you have to hang your food away from yourself so the bears don’t come anyway near you.

Looks amazing! If you are in a spot and have a fire I can recommend heating up some rocks, they keep heat well, have saved me in a pinch.
