Abandoned Funeral Home Where Decomposing Bodies Were Once Found.
F & M McLendon Funeral Home was built in 1974 in Wadesboro, North Carolina. It opened as a family owned funeral home to serve the people of Wadesboro and the surrounding Anson County, North Carolina. F & M McLendon Funeral Home first ran into some issues when they had numerous complaints filed against them in the early 2000’s. Most of these complaints were in reference to mishandled funds from the families of deceased people that were serviced by the funeral home.
The real serious problems began for F & M McLendon Funeral Home in 2010 when authorities came to the funeral home to serve a warrant and found 3 decomposing bodies inside. One of these bodies was found in a silver casket and was so far decomposed that the authorities could not immediately identify the individual. A further investigation was completed and it was found that the three bodies were supposed to have been cremated as the funeral home was paid by the families to cremate their loved ones. The bodies were removed and taken to a different funeral home. This was just the beginning of the downfall of F & M McLendon Funeral Home.
After the local news caught wind of what had happened at F & M McLendon Funeral Home, other people started to contact authorities and file complaints against the funeral home. This led to a further investigation and findings of misappropriated funds, embezzlement, and obtaining property under false pretenses.
In 2012, F & M McLendon Funeral Home was immediately closed down.
In 2014, the owner of F & M McLendon Funeral Home was charged and sentenced to 6 to 17 months in prison. Authorities went back to the funeral home with cadaver dogs for one final search of the building and surrounding 30-acre lot. They eventually were led to two more decomposing bodies inside the funeral home. This was the final “nail in the coffin” for F & M McLendon Funeral Home.
In 2021, F & M McLendon Funeral Home was finally demolished ending a years long heartache and constant reminder for locals of the tragedy that unfolded at the funeral home.
Big shout out to Leland at Abandoned Southeast for this explore.

These owners are why people tend to think ALL funeral homes are bad! 😢😢 This is NOT the norm. As a mortician for over 25 years, this case made me cry. I love your videos, but I hope people realize that there are SO many morticians, including myself, that get into this profession because we CARE. 💕

Please answer me this question. Whare in the WORLD did this half a casket lid idea come from? All my relatives were buried in caskets that had full lids, no half a casket lid stuff. That half a casket lid stuff looks cheap, as water can get into the casket itself, not that it matters as you'll never see the casket ever again once it's been buried in the ground and inside a concrete vault, however whare did this half a casket lid stuff come from? Nobody wants to answer my question about this.

@@danbasta3677 funeral customs vary in different parts of the world, and like anything else, it comes down to what’s popular. In my experience, I have worked with both half, and full couch caskets. Full couch is the one with the full lid of course. I would rather use the half lid, and I’ll explain why. When the full couch lid is open, and the casket is empty, the full lid has more weight to it and can tip over backwards. Yes, I have done it. Most places can probably order a full couch, or you can order from the internet. This is just my humble thoughts on the subject. Hope this answer is a little helpful 💕

While I don’t have a problem at all with the concept of documenting things like this, there are other outlets on KZfaq that do it much more respectfully. Not talking so loud and laughing (there’s a reason people tend to be quiet at cemeteries and this should be no exception at all), blurring out the closeups of remains (not because I’m offended but just because it’s respectful to do so), and so on. I do however believe that documenting the disarray is a positive since many people tend to believe that once a loved one passes, people have a right to know if their practices could put the corpses in disarray. I also like how they gave actual news footage to confirm these facts. Exposure and their education and research is just fine, but the presentation needs to be more respectful.

Eerily similar to that situation with those funeral homes here in Michigan a couple years ago. I can only imagine the pain the families felt finding out it was their loved ones being kept like that and all out of pure greed.

To Paul a physical resurrection does not inherit God's Kingdom. 1 Cor. 15:49 "49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven. 50 What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality." Dirty, or impoverished clothing, and clean, or gleaming clothing were seen as metaphors for Earthly/spiritual bodies in the ancient world. (Mark 14:51-52 "A certain young man was following him, wearing nothing but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him, but he left the linen cloth and ran off naked.", 16:5 "As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.")

The dried fluids and instruments on the table....look like they left in a hurry. Even for 1974 the embalming room looked as if they only used what was necessary...to save money. The 2 bodies found...wow. Must not have had any family, maybe paid for by the state as in a poverty case....still they should have finished that person as if they had been royalty.

It is now 2024 and this building is still there. I live a few miles from the funeral home and knew Mary McLendon. She buried three of my in laws. My brother in law had a strong odor of decomposition during his viewing.

How could blood sit on that autopsy table for that long? I know it dries and crusts but you think it would all be gone after a few months.

Well quite naturally, during the embalming process. Cold water would be running to help wash the bodily fluids down the drain..in this case, they said it was a deceased laying on the embalming table.... It can be any thing from just decomp.. sad...

If you ever watched The Staircase, The Petersens lived in their home with the blood still on the stairs and walls for a few years. I don’t think they were allowed to clean or remove it due to the investigation. So the blood was visible for a while.
