After over a year following this channel, it's inspiring to see that the focused, short vids really highlight the level of talent and dedication being shared. Anyone can swing at 50 pitches and eventually connect, but this is solid hitting and a well-rounded game. Thank you. So glad I subscribed.

Great breakdown. I teach Judo for BJJ at our academy and this is the way it should be broken down. Excellent vid

Many judo clubs I have noticed don’t really teach concepts much or break down technique like they do in bjj

In germany we call the first kouchi harai, the second kouchi gari and the third kouchi makkikomi or gake. I heard and read on the internet that for the japanese it's all kouchi gari. Different countries different culture I guess.

It's not a cultural thing, it's a semantic thing. People call techniques whatever they want these days - many claiming them with names of players or even countries who's players seem to favour them. Some argue, that like language, it doesn't matter because it's natural for language to evolve, so long as everybody understands each other. But if you want to be better at judo then it's worth understanding the differences. Whoever told you that in Germany didn't know the difference between a sweep/harai (when most of the the body mass is over the other foot) and a reap/gari (when more body mass but not yet all is over the foot being attached). The 2nd, with the prop and push action is an otoshi/drop. The 3rd is as he said: gake/hook. Makikomi, is a winding movement usually with Tori's arm wrapped around and over uke's, not under. Ko uchi gake is commonly mis-named ko uchi makikomi, even by the IJF, which reflects the evolution, but as you can see here, they even name it wrongly in their video: judo.ijf.org/techniques/Ko-uchi-makikomi

I was taught the Kouchi gake/makikomi on a BJJ class, the difference was that after the armdrag you swing your right arm around to get an underhook on the other side, that way you'll land in a good half guard passing position and don't give your back.

I pulled No.1 off perfectly only once and it was so simple and effortless. The timing is so difficult to master.

Could you demonstrate a kouchi gari on the move? I feel like that would be useful.

The ko uchi makikomi is my favourite as I my tokiu waza is ippon seoi nage I do ippon seoi but it fails and then I wrap the arm and hook the foot to slam him down The first one is also good I use it when my opponent is heavier than me

I like to use number 2 as a setup for my koshi guruma. Also, when I do one handed judo (r v r got lapel or sleeve) can I shoulderbump into his chest and simultaniously go for the kouchi as a way of gettin my second hand on?

Getting your back taken from that third ko uchi is a wives tale unless your a white belt Coincidentally how ever if your hitting makikomis on ppl your probably a high lvl judo guy with a white belt in bjj in wich case YOUR PROBABLY STILLNOT GONNA GET YOUR BACK TAKEN 😂😂😂
