Tony Jeffries shares 3 boxing defense drills if you fear getting punched in the face or getting hit in a sparring or real match. It is normal to fear getting hit and punched in the head especially if you are a beginner in boxing or it is your first sparring match. I also gave a bonus reaction drill that you could do to improve your footwork and defense techniques.

The best way to get over the fear of getting punched in the face is to get punched in the face. Spar more often. The double end bag is a great way to train your eyes for something coming at you.

My buddy wrestled at Univ of Md., got into it one night at a bar in College Park with a boxer from the Naval Academy (we found out after the fact). My buddy eventually got the best of him when it went to the ground, but damn he took some shots coming out of the gate!! Said he had never been punched so hard in his life and almost backed off when he realized what he was up against.

true, it's a lot less painful or scary than people think. not a lot of nerves there, but if you do get hit hard enough for it to have hurt, you just get knocked silly and can't feel it as well anyway. i don't *like* getting hit in the face, but it's definitely not the least pleasant place i've been hit lol

Can you make a video on reasons why you think people throw up or have problems with gagging through out sparring or high intensity drills (Besides the obvious one and that’s what you ate and when)? I had a few problems when I first started boxing and I’ve seen other people struggle with it as well. Also let these beginners know that’s it’s okay to push your body to that limit.

Tony, a question, if I may.... Would you say that in the absence of a training partner, or as a supplement to sparring, if someone practices defensive head movement footwork and blocks fod thousands of reps per day.... He would be getting very good at it for proper application in real fights? Because in the end it is just your familiarity with the movements and your dexterity at them. Isn't that what is going to separate the world champion with everybody else? The dexterity and work ethic? Because everyone has access to training partners, the secret to success for the champs clearly doesnt stop there right?
