That *could* work *if* coconut oil is always liquid where you are. It is generally never a good idea to swap a solid for a liquid in a formulation where the ingredient is used at such a high %. Happy making!

Have you tried any of these with the Olivem 1000 you mentioned as a substitution? I’m curious if the “soaping” effect I hear it has could be a plus in this formulation. I’ve had a small bag of Olivem 1000 for months, but I always seem to choose BTMS or emulsifying wax NF over it, because they’re more predictable. This might be the perfect project for me to try it out though. :)

I just recently stumbled across your channel and immediately subscribed! Your content is incredibly well done, thought out and explained. With that being said, is it possible to sub the fractionated coconut oil out for something like grape seed oil? I suffer from fungal acne and anything coconut based tends to exacerbate my acne. If not, is there another option that’s safe for those of us who can’t use Malassezia feeding ingredients? Something that will function well in a cleansing balm? Thank you for all you do! ❤️
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe Жыл бұрын
Hello & welcome! The fractionated coconut oil I'm using is actually MCT, which is fungal acne safe :) From what I understand, grape seed oil is not fungal acne safe. It looks like the polysorbate 60 and cetearyl alcohol in the emulsifying wax NF used in this formulation are likely also problematic: simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/. Fungal acne is a jerk :(

Hello! I have a question about recipe number one. Is it okay to substitute mgt for grape seed oil? I read your online blog post and it seemed to imply that you could, but I just thought I’d ask anyway. I am also thinking about changing up the ratios. What do you think about 30 grams oil 5 grams cetearyl alcohol 5 grams emulsifying wax Just asking incase you knew if this would fail. Thanks!

It would be great to see a formulation with mineral oil. Seb derm means a lot of oils are off the list for me, but with a coconut allergy, even fractionated or MCT oil irritates my skin. The only way I manage to keep mineral oil from separating in my formulations is to include water, basically making a rich lotion to remove makeup and cleanse. Has anyone successfully made an anhydrous balm with mineral oil that doesn’t end up “weeping” oil over time? Would stearic acid in addition to the e-wax and cetyl alcohol solve that?
@cosmic_lotus_eater
@cosmic_lotus_eater Жыл бұрын
Hey, another Seb Derm and Fungal Acne sufferer here. I actually use a mineral oil 75% ewax 20% and kaolin clay 5% cleansing balm currently and it works well although the one without the clay was better imo, just mineral oil with 20% ewax and the texture is like solidified coconut oil. A friend of mine recommended me this recipe which she uses too. Only thing is it leaves a oily residue which a gel face wash takes care of completely.
@jennasaisquoi73
@jennasaisquoi73 Жыл бұрын
@@cosmic_lotus_eater So, yours doesn’t separate? I tried 80% mineral oil and 20% ewax, but the mineral oil still wants to separate just a bit several days after I make the balm, leaving a little puddle on top of the balm. 😕 I wonder what I’m doing wrong. Maybe not mixing it long enough?

Hi! The fractionated coconut oil I've used in this formulation is not coconut oil-it's made from it, but performs/feels nothing like whole coconut oil. If you've ever used Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT/Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride), it's far closer than that (I think this bottle actually was MCT-suppliers often sell MCT as fractionated coconut oil). I recommend looking it up in the free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) to learn more ❤️ If you still don't want to use it, alternatives are discussed in the free partner blog post, linked in the description box below this video. Hi! You'll find the answer to your question in the partner blog post that's linked in the description box below the video :) If you're not sure what that means, read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/. Happy making!

They aren't! I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the written version of the formulation in the free partner blog post, which is linked in in the written version of the formulation in the free partner blog post the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.). Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop.
