I tried this because I'm struggling with a similar scene, but when I render it, the dramatic black is sort of faded into grey, murdering the contrast. I tried making this one from scratch also and it is still grey. Tried all sorts of things. Eevee, Cycles, made all the materials as dark as possible. Nothing. Even flat rough back is rendering as grey. I've done it before. Now it isn't working. At my wit's end. My scene isn't working very well at all because I can't get the background dark enough for the drama. Ideas?

enable denoise for your viewport settings :))) and set the samples to 128-512, around that range. also a big factor for this is your hardware so.... this might not work for you depending on your pc

check the roughness, the lower the roughness, the shinier it is. Or it could also be due to the low emission emitting from the object
