I found using some zip ties to secure the wire shroud on the top helps eliminate harmonic noise where the shroud resonates at its harmonic frequency helps huge. When running use you hand to put pressure on various point on the shroud. When you can make the noise go away place a zip tie there between two of the shroud wires which then doesn’t allow the wire to resonate and make noise anymore. Explaining this is difficult but I think you get the point. Also putting small rubber pieces between the coil and the wire mess on the outside where similar harmonic noises happen works well too. 4-5 placed zip ties and half a dozen soft rubber pads eliminated most all of these annoying harmonics on my unit. Thanks for the video.

I geeked out on HVAC when my furnace died. As a mechanical engineer I enjoy this stuff and after seeing the quality of work the previous "professionals" had done on my 1954 house I redid EVERYTHING including the ducting and switching from a gas furnace to a dual fuel heat pump/ gas furnace setup. I wish I would have had your channel 6 years ago when I was doing this as it probably would have saved me a lot of time.

Hope this helps, the soft starts actually work and are not snake oil. I have a Firman generator from Costco, output is 6750watts on propane. Would trip out when trying to run the AC. I installed Hyperstart's SureStart SS1B08-16SN on my AC unit that had a ZP29K5E compressor with a RLA of 15.3A. I am able to run my AC with the Firman and as a nice bonus the softstart got rid of the start up "slam" that used to wake me up at night. It's been running for 2 years now no issues, I had a few questions during install and the Hyper Engineering support was fantastic. Took less than an hour.

You are way off bro, the purpose of the fan is to extract heat from the COILS, that’s the whole idea of the refrigeration cycle. Some compressors like Trane equipment come wrapped from the factory, but it costs a lot extra to wrap the compressor on millions of units so most companies don’t.

Another source of noise is the line set from the compressor to the furnace. We have one that runs vertically in an exterior wall. Only concern I have with the insulation cover is it keeps the compressor hotter than normally it would be because you’re insulating it. That could reduce its life. Also, you’re containing all those sound energy to within the compressor. Yeah that sounds kind of crazy, but does that affect the life of the compressor? Nothing comes for free! I think I’m more concerned with the insulation aspect and keeping an already hot compressor much hotter. It’s all a trade off at the end of the day ! Thanks for the video.

They put compressors inside and in the middle of the condenser for a reason; the fan will cool them off. However, if you want help out your fellow AC repair folks, by all means, tell people how to kill their compressor early by insulating and trapping in the heat. Then restrict airflow through the unit by blocking it with solid sound-proofing material. Why not go for the trifecta and tell them to just tent it or build a shed around it.

Would building a wall with concrete blocks on one side lessen the noise?
@philreinie8976
@philreinie8976 11 ай бұрын
If the entire unit can still breath to cool itself, that will work. You're moving hot from inside the house expecting to dissipate it outside the house, and if you prevent that dissipation, then proper cooling won't be achieved, but deflecting the sound away from the house is okay. It might be nicer to use a lattice with vines instead, as the vines will also help to absorb the sound so it isn't deflected to your patio or neighbor's patio, plus, vines help with natural cooling and converting CO2 to O2,, and look much nicer than concrete blocks.
@KYBlueJedi
