Thanks for the tips. I started boxing at home a few weeks ago, and your advice helped a lot. The couch cushion didnt stand a chance

@@RingReadyBoxing_ yoo sorry for the late reply, didnt notice 😭😭. And nah, i dont. I usually just put up an old couch cushion against a wall and put something against it so it doesnt fall, and then use socks with more socks inside it as gloves

@Cody Lutzi There's some wrong information here about 'power' rooted in modern martial arts myths. Before that. Your technique on the right hand seems to be better, more comfortable and consistent than your hook. I noticed you threw the hook better only in the 'transferring weight section'. Your arm is outstretched, you'er smacking with the palm, your knuckles are facing straight ahead of you instead of aiming at the bag you're trying to hit. Need to bend your forearm inward, closer to yourself, from the elbow, so the elbow is at more of a right angle, and your knuckles, and elbow, should be throw straight towards your target on the bag. Outside the transferring weight section, when you're throwing the hook, you're rotating you're rotating your shoulders and hips the opposite way you're punching. You kind of half turn early, and then start rotating back the other way. Now, misinformation. Your fist is what you're hitting the bag with, and your punch is only as hard as your fist is being swung into it. The physics of the impact work in the complete opposite way as you describe. The target and your fist push against and each. The target pushes back against you, through your own fist, down your arm and through your body until a weak link in the chain gives way, like trying to poke something with a pool noodle. Often this will be the wrist that'll bend or roll backwards and weaken your punch, the elbow if it's not aligned behind your knuckles and isn't held tightly, your shoulder if it's not held strongly enough to withstand the impact with the bag. This continues right down to your waist, hips, knees and feet. A solid inflexible stick is better than a pool noodle to transfer effort into a target. The part that starts from your feet and works it's way up is the swinging motion of your punch before it hits anything. You want everything swinging as quickly straight towards what you're hitting, because that, momentum and kinetic energy, is what is transferred as 'power' to the target, and causes damage. When that fist lands, you want everything, from your fist down or back through your body, to be as inflexible as possible, so that all the effort you made with your swing is transferred into the target. The more stress you feel in your hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders and so on when you land, the more of that effort went into the target. Reason why is you're transferring the movement of your body, into the target. The more of your effort or movement you transfer, the more your body is decelerated, because you're pushing all that movement to the target. So two parts, Have to swing hard and have to keep everything tight so you're not just slapping with your fist, but swinging your entire body into the target, like an inflexible stick, not a pool noodle.
