Pretty good, dig that 2-5-1. It's a good trick for teaching inversions to the youngsters when they're getting some chords going. Makes the reps much more fun and interesting.

This is great because I am a semi-professional musician and I do play jazz at some venues, but that isn't the only genre I play. However, it is great to use jazz chord progressions in other styles of music too.

Very cool explanation, thanks. there is just one thing I disagree with you. On the jazz standard Autumn Leaves (the second progression is actually its Coda) the descending chords are || Em7(9) | Eb7(9) | Dm7(9) | Db7(13) | CMaj7(9) ||, as it's written also on the Real Book 1. I mean that the second chord is a Dominant 7, not a minor 7 (natural G instead of Gb), because it adds more tension, as it comes from the Tritone Substitution of the II-V-I progression, and it should be seen as the substitution of the implied Secondary Dominant progression (the || Em7 | A7 | Dm7 | G7 | CMaj7 || progression, where the A7 tritone C# - G, which are the Major Third and minor - or Dominant - Seventh of the A7 chord, becomes the tritone G - C# in the Eb7 chord). Anyway, it's a cool progression also if you see it that way. 🙂

I think it will be easier to see if the piano fingering of the left hand part is using different color than the right.

Progression 2 sounds great but why doesn't the Db13 carry the Ab?
@mikevitulli8971
@mikevitulli8971 2 ай бұрын
If you add an Ab with the left hand after the first Db (5th degree) it could sound too muddy, and usually when playing jazz the 5th degree of the chord is considered implied, unless it is altered (and with the right hand you have to choose between the Ab and the Bb, which is the 13 degree, in this case) 🙂

My hands are too small to play the right side. I am barely able to stretch 1 octave, adding in having to reach over the black keys makes this extremely painful.

Yeah you're gonna have to learn to read music. It's long and difficult journey. I can't imagine trying to learn on your own as an adult. I learned in school through our music program. Orchestra and Honor Orchesrtra especially, required me to develop my sight reading to the point it was like a second language.
