I still find so weird how the whole lore and gimmick for the Skull Merchant is a hunter/predator, yet her power basically makes her a territorial killer instead of actually hunting the survivors

The fact that it took 53 min and a comp team to overcome this killer strategy is insane and definitely not doable on solo queue or even swf if you don't have perfect comms

The apology at the end was crazy. Saying the survivors using gen rush was a cheap tactic when he held the game hostage with the most cheap tactic in skull merchants entire play book for 50 minutes is insanity.

Some call it moronic confidence, others call it extreme luck, but I call it an honorable sacrifice on both sides, Team Eternal had a hell of a time trying to break through, and both sides wasted almost a full hour of their lives, and hopefully that drives the point across that this entire killer needs to be reworked.

Thank you Otz, for managing to edit down and make a skull merchant game actually enjoyable to watch, as we all know that the actual match was anything but.

This is still not Ok. With a strategy this simple this man made the best team in the entire game, the top 0.001% to struggle(at least up until the midgame) for 55 minutes. There is no way a team with no comms or a passing skill competitive team would ever beat this without a miracle. By "proving" that this strategy is not like chess only proves that this is beyond broken/unfair. It's a situation where in reality everyone loses. Let's also add that this game lasted longer than a drawn out League of Legends game and then some

I may be a killer main, but I hate when anyone, killer or survivor, uses toxic playstyles to win. Throughout the video I was thinking “don’t let this toxic son of a gun win!” I’m so fricking happy that team Eternal came out on top here, what a game!

I've never rooted harder for Eternal than this match. I don't ever exit gate teabag, but the catharsis from viewing those endgame bags was amazing. Glad you pointed out their self-imposed nerf with no stacked perks/items, I'd imagine four stacked BNPs and a far off gen for farming 4 potential energies would have made things much easier given they knew who/what they were somewhat going up against.

What i liked seeing was how CM91 changed during the match, at first he had music, didnt seem care so much, thought he truly was gona win, then when the gen was finally done he didnt have any kind of music he realised it was not gona be as easy as he originally thought

Crazy how it was somehow intense rooting for the survivors and damn was it satisfying when they escaped

Decided to revisit the video and the not-very-good and not-so-old days of unlimited gen regression events. So glad they changed it. It's actually crazy how long the game lasted. So close, 7 minutes longer and the SM would win due to the timer. It's even more crazy to think that holding the generators for longer would have been perfectly possible if only the player made some better decisions. When all three generators clearly began to gain a lot of progress, the smart thing to do would be to go for Eruption, all Survivors were injured and so the chase wouldn't last for too long. Even in the video we see opportunities to go after someone who wasn't in a good spot and get Eruption value but the SM decided to kick the gen instead. Especially smart would be to go after Dan and get him out of the match, 3 Survivors would have had much more difficult time breaking the 3 gen in the end. Apparently the player was too focused on the idea of having all 4 Survivors killed by the timer just to prove his point. Overall, good it's already a relic of the past, great video Otz!

My man did not just say “resort to cheap and boring tactics” after committing to 3-gen Merchant for an hour.

I think there should be some small changes to her power like, max two drones in range of gens, up the distance between drones, increase the cooldown on putting a new drone out, if players disable a drone a new one can't be put up in that former radius there for a little while. Just little things that would make it harder to hold a 3 gen.

Any other team probably would’ve lost to time, that means this skill merchant wins against more than 99% of survivors unless they use op perks/items and expect it. That’s insane

Cm9i made a great villain here. Love that he jokingly blamed gen-rushing at the end in a 53 minute match. If you're going to push the limits of an unfun strategy, that's how you do it :D

Four survivors in comms who know beforehand who their killer is and how he's going to play and it still almost worked. Regardless of how you feel about whether or not this strategy should be allowed, the fact that it worked this well even when survivors have more of an advantage than the game normally allows should tell you that it is too strong.

The other day I played against a Skull Merchant with this build. Honestly the least fun match of dbd I ever played. It was solo queue so we couldn't communicate but my teammates actually stayed in the match and we played for like 40 minutes. Still proud of them ❤

I am so glad they won this, cause this kind of strategies are the reason ppl quit or never start playing dbd. Seeing something so easy and boring being a good strategy is just mind-blowing and honestly kinda sad.

for those wondering, the reason the game ends at 60 minutes is because a while ago, there was an epidemic of blatant cheaters in dbd, and they were putting themselves in the hooked state mid-air which would cause the game to not end after the endgame colapse timer ended for some reason, holding the game (mainly the killer, who was usually a streamer) hostage for up to 2 hours, when the game would naturally close (I don't remember if it was an issue with the game being too long that would cause the server to close after 2 hours or if it was a failsafe they intentionally put in). to combat this, they made it so a game will end after 1 hour, killing any remaining survivors automatically so they aren't rewarded for holding the game hostage and the killer is rewarded if they choose to wait it out. however, this unintentionally gives the Skull Merchant's gen hostage playstyle a solid win condition, which is very unfortunate. I don't think the issue is with the timer, I think the timer should actually be shortened down to maybe 40 minutes or something at least, but Skull Merchant and/or holding 3gens for long periods of time is the issue here and something needs to change drastically. However, with the nature of the game's objective being how it is, no amount of changes will get rid of 3 gens, just as is the case with tunneling, camping, and slugging. It's inherently baked into the design of the game's objectives (which were designed for what's basically a completely different game that the devs need to make work with the very different game dbd has become since the gamemode was designed), and we'll only ever see those things be truly gone if we get a new gamemode with a different objective(s) and win/loss condition(s). this killer player's childish behavior aside, this was good to see and I hope this reminds the community that this is still a problem that needs addressing.

It’s funny how such a long match was so exciting to watch because any little progress and change was so sudden and made the match so close that it was better than any match I’ve seen. Bravo to everyone involved.!

I have versed this person 6 times during the event and they are one of the most toxic killers i have ever played against. They would slug and bm you on the ground for minutes (or until someone touched their drones), hit you on hook and face camp, repeatedly nod on the right hand side when you die, and say the same things in the endgame chat “gg?” “playing skull merchant and keeping a 3 gen is like a chess match you wouldn’t understand” and my favorite, “word around the fog is that you are all dog”. I really hope these videos force a huge change for the skull merchant because the fact that people can use this build and play style to get easy 4k’s and hold the best team for 50+ minutes just shows how broken her power still is, not to mention how impossible it is to win against in pubs. Thank you for addressing this player and the Skull Merchant, I seriously hope some changes are made because of it.

I’m so happy this happened. Some guy almost beating the best team in the world by jsut walking in circles. Maybe this will make the team finally change skill merchant in a way to make her more of a stalking/chase killer which would be so much more fun

the worst part about all of this is that skull merchant had to make a mistake to lose. once gens were starting to progress she needed to go for a down on the person next to the edge of the map. theres almost nothing there and it wouldve been an easy repeat down or kill if they keep trying to push that gen.

the problem I see here is the survivors need incredible teamwork, strong counter perks and perfect reflexes and ability to hit hard skill checks consistently. The killer just has to run around and kick gens/down people every now and then.

Less a game of "chess" and more a game of "snakes and ladders", where snakes are snakes and ladders are also snakes and with one die - you'll either get there with your sanity ripped to shreds or you just leave the table and never return until the therapy sessions have ended.
