I also felt relief immediately after. I’m nervous about tendinitis. I have just started playing intense tennis again and I wasn’t sure if this cropped up from the tennis or my work laptop

Thank you for commenting. In my experience shaky hands often have a neurological cause. I would therefore seek a neurologists opinion first. Best wishes.

I am having issues sleeping at night, I cannot bend my arms when sleeping because I get this weird pain in my elbow area and then my fingers or hand will start to tingle and go numb.. I have had to keep my arms from bending. I started noticing it around the time I was having issues with my shoulder (the same one I sleep on as a side sleeper) and just thought it was my shoulder… I saw a doctor not too long ago and he didn’t offer much help, just said to keep my arms straight and recommend the tubes inside toilet roll! It had been months before I saw the doctor so him recommending I do what I already was doing was really annoying. He told me it was a trapped nerve and it will fix itself over time (like months of this wasn’t already enough!) he never bothered recommending exercises like this at all! I have Ehlers Danlos and so as time goes on I’m having more issues with my joints so any little helps! Wish I could travel from London to see you though!

I hope the exercises provide some relief. They don’t work for everyone though and if your nerve is more significantly compressed then you might need nerve conduction tests to confirm the diagnosis and then an elbow surgeon to decompress the nerve. Best wishes. Stephen.

Thanks for posting this video, I had to have an operation on my right elbow about 15 years ago for this. I'm now getting symptoms in my left hand & I'm hoping to avoid another operation.
@PhysioMSK

It’s always worth trying exercises and a night splint especially if symptoms are mild and intermittent. It’s a condition that often settles without surgery. Check out my other video here and good luck kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLWcZLmU3M3Hj2Q.html

The English tea exercise. You said it’s normal to feel a bit of tingling but then said to stop if you do. Which is it?
@PhysioMSK
@PhysioMSK 5 ай бұрын
Stop when you get the tingling ie. Stop at the point of tingling with each repetition. Make sure the tingling has gone before doing the next repetition. Don’t push through the tingling or make it worse.

What would be the cause of pins and needles? Why is it an indication that the exercise should be stopped?
@PhysioMSK
@PhysioMSK 5 ай бұрын
Good question. The cause of pins and needles is a lack of blood to the nerve, usually due to constriction or stretching of the nerves blood supply. If the exercise reproduces pins & needles then I would consider that a warning not to push any further into that movement. Nerves are easily aggravated and pins and needles is an early warning sign that the nerve is unhappy. As long as any pins and needles settles down quickly after the exercise, then that's usually fine but I've seen people who have been too aggressive with these exercises and caused a flare up of intense nerve pain then has taken days to settle down.

can Guyon's be caused by trauma to the neck? I had a fall about 4 weeks ago where I fell on my left side, hit my head on the cement but felt pain on the right side of my neck for 3 days. I didn't make the connection until I started doing the neck bending exercise you recommended when that same pain came back.
@PhysioMSK
@PhysioMSK 9 ай бұрын
No. If you have little / ring finger pain / tingling following a neck problem then it will most likely be a C8 nerve root irritation.

Hi, I armwrestle as a hobby and got injured when my hand was supinated palm up position and it went side ways (externally rotated). I felt something jerked or moved around my elbow and it has been 7 months and I still can't find the problem. The most pain comes when I try to internally rotate my arm while bent (45 degree and below) and/or with ulnar deviation and with wrist flexion. My entire hand and arm will shake with weakness when applying pressure this way. Could it be the ulnar nerve compression or tendon issue.
@PhysioMSK
@PhysioMSK Жыл бұрын
Hi. I would be suspicious of a biceps tendon issue here. It’s a common injury in arm wrestling. Try and get an MRI or ultrasound scan if you can. Ulnar nerve problems don’t tend to be painful. Symptoms are usually pins and needles in the hand.
@ryanng1705
@ryanng1705 Жыл бұрын
@@PhysioMSK thank you so much 👍🏻 i was suspicious of my bicep tendon as well but it seems to not hurt when i do bicep curls. Is it still possible that its a bicep tendon issue even though theres no pain in the movement?
@PhysioMSK
@PhysioMSK Жыл бұрын
The main function of biceps is forearm supination. Despite calling them biceps curls, the muscle that flexes the elbow is mainly brachialis. So a better test of biceps tendonitis or rupture is restated supination. Pain would suggest tendinitis. Weakness compared to the other side would suggest a tendon rupture. Other potential structures you might have injured would the ligaments around the elbow, the radio humeral joint, annular ligament or interosseous membrane. Careful examination + an MRI would be advisable. Good luck !
