It’s worth noting that these 3 films didn’t or haven’t yet secured theatrical releases across the globe. In the U.K. they were (and will be) sent straight to Amazon Prime Video as ‘Amazon Originals’. So, that’s going to hurt their box office potential for sure. If they did all secure theatrical releases, perhaps it’d be a different story?

I and my husband just saw Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. We loved the movie and are planning to go back and see it again. I do think that it is a lot on marketing and distribution. First, Amazon has killed it's boxoffice $$ by not putting it in theaters in the UK and Canada where it would make a boatload of money. Secondly, we are older and the only way I heard about it was on an MSNBC interview with Guy Ritchie on Morning Joe. They need to advertise it as based on a true story of the Natzi vs. the Allies that rivals all the adventure and special effects of Indiana Jones, especially the Lost Crusade. It is fun and you need to attract younger audiences as well as us history buffs whose grandparents or parents lived through World War II. Of course the two movies that pre-viewed MUW, a sci-fi and a horror film that will probably make big bucks...Gag me.

I feel like it’s also a movie price thing. It’s $30 for two tickets, $40 plus if you want IMAX, Dolby or 3D. Then Snacks are an Easy $30. It’s a fucking pricey time to be a movie fan. No one is gonna go see a fun Guy Richie film if it costs $50-$60 to do so

I went on a Tuesday ... ticket cost $5. You can also hit up a matinee as well which for me would have been $10.50. But I am trying to make a habbit of hitting the theaters on those discount Tuesdays after work. Some theaters have special prices on Tuesdays. I spent $17.50 total but that was because of the popcorn and drink. Dolby is pretty standard ... I could careless about Imax and 3D is a worn out gimmick.
@Vysedragon
@Vysedragon 9 күн бұрын
@@ronpetersen2317 Let’s look at what you said. You wanna go on special priced days or matinee. Most people aren’t money savvy or don’t have the time but also take into account schedule differences or work. So naturally they wanna go see it at night or during the weekend. This eliminates people like yourself who are choosing to go see it during a lower priced time. I mean even then you spent basically $20 to go watch a movie on a lower priced day. Thats a steep cost for one person. Imagine a family of four or even just a couple. The whole extras may not appeal to you but I think they are what appeal to masses when going to watch a film in theaters nowadays. You can watch regular movies at home, but you can’t have a 3D or IMAX experience there.

I am going again next week. I will be skipping the popcorn and drink. $5 ... if that is too much then you have bigger problems anyway like being homeless. I am not even seeing movies listed as 3D. As for watching 3D at home ... they had 3D TVs a few years ago .... nobody wanted it. Sure you can watch movies at home. But that is like $25 ... I can spend $5 and get the theater going community experience. You also don't have a 60 foot wide television at home. Sorry you think $5 is a lot of money ... hope you find a job soon.

How much it makes matters obviously so they can make the next one. People over seeing movies at theaters are and never were movie fans. The big movies have been tanking because of quality bad writing and other garbage the throw in at the sacrifice of story.

The movie industry is dying. The box office is very poor this year. The biggest hit so far Dune 2 and whether that's actually made any profit... who knows. Deadpool 3 and Joker 2 may make 900 Mill ww or more but my guess is 90 percent of films are not going to make any profit or struggle to break even. Cinema is dying.

@@YTguySmithy-lk6go Ummm no ... we just had a bunch of bad or meh movies is all. A lot are distracted by social engineering attempts and forget about story. Guardians 3 did good. Boy kills world looks awsome. If you think or want cinema to die ... why are you even here?

Not been able to watch any of these in the cinema in the UK... all gone to Amazon. So £0 box office return from UK viewers. Maybe another reason the 'flop' tag is thrown at them. Wonder how much Amazon has payed behind the scenes for them???

Thank you for actually doing your research on the FACTS!!! I mean for real now...what do people expect? This Movie is literally not even out yet and some people call it a flop? Why? It was released in the US...and? Im a big Cavill fan but I dont live in the US. Most of his fans live in Europe...and the movie is not out here yet.

@@kahlan4106 exactly. I still think they should do limited theatrical runs internationally for these movies before going to prime, or do day to day, but alas.

I don't want to see the umpteenth war movie with some guy. I know the script is apparently in some legal entanglement but if he's not making The Real Rocknrolla, I don't care what Guy Ritchie has to say or do.

I think it's poor marketing. I enjoyed his films, and if you look at his films on RT, the percentages of critics and audiences are above average. I've heard of Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, but I didn't know when it was coming out.

Poor Marketing is definitely a factor...but also the fact that Guy Ritchie has a new deal with Amazon Prime. They own the international rights to the movie. Lionsgate released it in the US, only. Prime will put it exclusively on their streamer in Canada and europe

Honestly believe it has nothing to do with people not liking his films but it’s the fact that people just don’t want to go out to theaters anymore & purchase a 20 dollar ticket 20 dollar popcorn & a 10 dollar soda if you’re going with a date that’s 100 & people would rather sit at the comfort for their own home & stream

This is why I say we are putting theater releases on too much of a pedestal. I think we need to not automatically scoff at the straight to streaming movies. Theres alot of filmmakers that,due to the business of marketing in the film industry, might only have a streaming distribution deal as their best or only option.
@grumpyrock
@grumpyrock 8 күн бұрын
If you put this movie straight to streaming, it would have made 0 dollars and no one would have even heard of it. It’s proven that movies with theatrical releases have bigger streaming debuts than original films.
@trenttotten7202
@trenttotten7202 8 күн бұрын
@grumpyrock I'm not saying specifically this movie but we do need acknowledge that that theatrical releases are a privilege determined by things that go beyond a movie being "good " or "bad". Alot of filmmakers can make good stuff that gets relegated to streaming. As a public we are conditioned to believe streaming movies are sub standard. That's a privilege to be able to flop at the box office three times. For other filmmakers they can make great things that go straight to streaming because it's not "theater worthy". That's all I'm trying to convey.

The media nor the box office are an authority on people’s subjective enjoyment of a film. There are many films that are executed competently yet weren’t widely marketed. It’s a shame that his original films are bombing.
