Thanks Jeff for another good one. This one validates what I’ve been doing to improve my soil and to keep it from eroding away. The rotation of crops works terrific for growing better plants and bringing in the deer and turkey even on small kill plots. Love that whiteboard.

I like the whiteboard. It seems to help me. Looking forward to following your method this year. I've already sprayed my plots and plan on planting buckwheat in the coming weeks for cover crop. Really looking forward to that August planting though.

Great video! In a fallow field, where grass clumps exist, even after an effective kill there is a lot of grass clumps. Any tricks for planting buckwheat in these PA field conditions?

do you have a video on how to no till plant buckwheat? I have some areas where I had brassica that is now basically bare soil. Do I need to do something to make better soil to seed contact or just broadcast before a rain?

Hey Jeff, I am attempting to start a new plot in clearings of planted pines (5th rowed), on my lease it is the most advantageous place I have found. I am planning on broadcasting seeds using the no till method. My issue is that there are tons of pine needles blocking the soil. Can I broadcast over them or should I try to remove them. Limited equipment available and burning is probably not an option. Thanks!
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, you still need to make sure you eliminate weeds. I would get ahold of a leaf blower to clear the needles. Make sure rain brings weeds, kill and then broadcast seeds on top according my EZ No Till Food Plot methods.

So I planted 50 pounds of winter rye last year and they never touched it till January and February. what do I plant for November that they will eat and go to my neighbors?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure Jeremy...really depends on the neighbor's food. Cover. Deer numbers. Soil. Planting resources. Size of plots. Past experiences. That's 2 hours of interview time with my clients 😊 To find an appropriate answer for you specifically.

Shot a turkey yesterday on last years brassica food plot that I frost seeded red clover on in March. The clover is already 2-3 inches tall and the deer are browsing it. I'll kill it in Aug. with R'up and plant winter rye.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daryl...that's awesome, congrats!! Make sure that you work in the clover...till, disc, etc. because the clover is too thick to allow the rye to germinate within, even if you kill it. You would have to kill the clover at least a month prior to get the rye enough soil and sun exposure to grow.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Love your vids and your advice is always spot on. However, I've been completely no-till on my plots for over 10 years. I do agree that my success with no-till is dependent on my drill. It's a Great Plains 10-06 no-till drill that I first bought to plant my soybeans as a commercial farmer. I upgraded to a bigger drill for my farming, but kept my GP 10 footer for my food plots.
