Those are really good examples, but I also feel like André didn't choose those characters because they're still relatively new. Like, it hasn't even been half a century since they've existed yet.

It is a tradition here in Brazil to upper middle class 15 years adolescents to go to Disney. A lot of travel agencies works exclusively with this kind of trip. Btw, are you from Brazil too?

Great point about the moral ambiguity of cinema characters more recently. I think one could put the whole explosion of anti-hero based cinema on the influence of the Sopranos, though.

I’d say in South Africa a very popular American fictional character is Spider Man and another would be Ben 10, but I’m not too sure on how significant they are for people over 25 or 35 in this country

Ironman is a good candidate, as he symbolizes an aspect of the American psyche, the tension between various American values, and their sometimes hypocritical and self-serving nature.
