I saw on Bug Farmers channel that he sprayed the water hose up in the air when one of his hives started to swarm and they came back to the hive. He said it's because they thought it was raining. I don't know if that would have worked for you, but I thought it was interesting.

If I had a hose nearby I would have done the same thing, it does work. The only thing I had with me was my cow bell and that works too. In case you did not ever see the video of me using it, check out the link below. God's peace Amanda. Mr. Ed kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aJupmpiHltXbZ6c.html

What a great video, a little bit of everything in one! Yuck that first hive, all those beetle maggots . I was stung when I was young and had a very bad allergic reaction, had to go to the hospital. For the life of me I can't remember if it was a bee or yellow jacket, and ever since I've been terrified of them all. I thought after so long of watching all your videos and loving the bees that I was better. What a long day. But this little hive in your care will one day become a great big hive. I imagine those hive beetles are prolific this time of year. In that warm wet climate it is their season. I thought the bees would be driving them off but I guess not. You got the queen and there will be new bee blood in the Abbey's bee keeping. Is honey anti fungal as well as naturally antibiotic? Try playing a thunderstorm with a few lightening claps loudly and see if the bees will land. I've noticed a lot of insects will drop to the ground if you clap your hands near them. I'm guessing they sense the noise as close thunder/lightening. Maybe just clapping your hands hard would do it, or slapping a couple of flat boards together.
