I mean my T480 allows you to change the keyboard with just 2 screws. And sure, the SSD and memory you need to unscrew 6 screws :D It also has the battery bridge system. Such a great laptop.

the dell latitude e6410 was a beast when it came to modularity. ssd in two screws, memory in another one, CPU and heatsink in four as well as wifi card in another one. nowadays, my MacBook takes 6 screws to get into, a suction cup, a card, more screws to even get to the CPU, and you can't even replace anything except for the battery and the storage. yikes

@@etiyar it had 4gb samsung memory, i added another identical 4gb stick, so its 8gb now, and i put 250gb wd blue ssd in. It already had fingerprint reader, IPS panel and backlit keyboard, so didnt need to change these. Also i bought ultrabase dock too with dvd drive just in case. Best cheap small laptop imo

I have this laptop to and i did install the classic keyboard cuz i love it also my specs are Intel i5 : 4 cores 3.5 ghz 16gb ram 512 gb ssd new better screen diffrent speakers new body cuz some plastic points where broken

No worries if you don't want to learn a new system, but something like Linux mint is nearly the same as what windows would be, eg the desktop environment and the possibility to download packages from the web instead of a package manager.

It technically would work but you'd have to be careful about vibration causing the disk to work loose. I've seen people put small strip of rubber on the hard drive cover to provide a little extra tension to keep it in place. Ideally you should use those rubber bumpers as it holds the device very securely.

got my X230 delivered today. First thing i did was install 8 GIG of RAM and upgraded to an SSD. Next upgrade will be the screen!

Yes. Most thinkpads of this era have the same upgrade methods. Just unscrew the ram and HDD cover and replace the components. Other laptops from around 8-20 years ago also have easily accessible ram and hard drives, like my gateway tablet PC that I'm watching on from 2003. Thanks Linux ;)

USB 3.0 express card slot is not really needed as the X230 has already 2 USB 3.0 ports native

@@DexterKDC Yeah I think that is more of an X220 upgrade. As for the keyboard I think that is all on taste, but I would probably just go for a T420 if I really wanted that keyboard and more classic setup.

Not mistaken x240 can be upgraded to FHD panel so i think that's the best. If you can't get an x240, make sure you upgrade the others to an IPS panel for better colors and viewing angles

Ok: I bought a 4k monitor (lg 24 UD 58), and I can confirm that the x230 works via miniDP to DP at full 4k resolution, at 30 Hz (perfect for office, programming, etc). Don't expect gaming, of course (you are a ThinkPad owner, so it shouldn't be a problem), and if you try to play KZfaq at 4K resolution, it will freeze. But you can use full 4k at 30 hz, and with the lg is amazing!! Did I mention I paid about 500 bucks for a 300€ refurbished laptop (Thinkpad x230, i5-3320M, 8Gb, 240 SSD Evo860) + 200€ 4k IPS monitor :) It makes it so rewarding...
