This is a beautiful ASMR Brady! Good tips as well, sometimes I squish my down under certain layers and it's definitely pointless.

The agitating works super well for down sleeping bags as well. Definitely on the to-do list before the season starts.

Great info...the bugs are pretty bad! Good of you to tough it out Excellent suggestions too. I don't even bring my down out if its going to be dry cold to avoid getting wetted out.

I meant to say unless its a dry cold. No down or merino when its damp / wet for me.

How would you compare the Grumman to the Cirque? Stone Glacier markets them as about equal in terms of warmth when glassing...do you find that to be true?

Having worn both extensively in cooler temperatures, I would agree with Stone Glacier's marketing pertaining to the comparable warmth these two products provide when glassing. I think that Stone Glacier has included enough insulating material within each garment (whether treated down or synthetic insulation) so that they're comparable in warmth. I often decide on which jacket to bring based on the likelihood of precipitation only, knowing that I'll have the same warmth with either, although sometimes at an added weight and packability "penalty" of the Cirque. - Forest

@@gearfool great info. Thanks! I’m in the PNW so rain is always a possibility. The 133 g/m of PrimaLoft Gold is significant for sure. Seems like most pieces are about half that.

@@readyme I agree. When combined with the pit zips, the Cirque Jacket by SG offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to insulation.

Makes NO sense. That rain jacket is NOT heavy enough to compress the down to your skin. Laying on the jacket will undoubtedly compress the down through. You cannot compress any down product and expect insulation. Period. You’re other examples, spot on.

It's not so much the weight of the jacket that compresses the down, it's more the fit. I was using the M7 jacket which has a tighter fit, especially in the sleeves and armpit, that the outer layer of the Grumman down. It wasn't an all or nothing difference but I definitely noticed a warmth increase when I removed my jacket. -Brady
