If you haven't read the many different stages that the op has gone through. What different editors wanted you're missing out. This is my favorite stories he wrote

Dashiell was the grandfather of Kirk Hammett - the guitarist in Metallica. He died 22 months before Kirk was born. In 1919 Dashiell, aged 25, won large bets on Chicago in the World Series (Black Sox Scandal) Suspicious enough to be questioned by investigators six times. No charges resulted. The character of Roger Sterling in MAD MEN was partially based on Dashiell Hammett. The Coen Brothers are his 3rd cousins, 5 times removed (maternal side). Taylor Swift was born in the house Hammett lived from 1939, and died in, 1961.
