Must Do's (my opinion) to be successful seeding a new construction lawn. 1.All new homes have debris in the dirt. It's just how it goes, most builders throw material in the yard and it gets lost and forgotten about.
2. Prep the dirt the best you can for seed to thrive. Throwing seed on hard dirt won't really yield the results you want. Often times, you may have to bring in some better material (topsoil or compost) in order to have a better base to grow grass into.
3. Cover your seed with straw blankets, peat moss, or similar. This helps prevent washout, and helps keep the seed moist which will yield better germination rates. I don't like loose straw because it's messy and you don't know where it came from which can lead to a lot of weeds in your new lawn.
