3: Nevada Northern Railway - A GREAT historic train ride

The Grande Tour Episode 3.
Day 2: Monday July 10th 2023
I ride the Nevada Northern Railway from East Ely and through Robinson Canyon. This is a beautifully kept historic railroad and facilities. See the locomotive during morning preparations, a ride up the canyon and back, and then a tour of the locomotive shop (workshops / engine sheds).
Oh, and I ride with KZfaq legends and lovely people: Dale and Karyn of ‪@ToyManTelevision‬ . It was really great to spend some time with these guys!
This is part of my amazing historic railroad-based trip between Salt Lake City and Denver.

Magnificent!! 😊. A grand day it was!!!!! Fun is where you find it and wow did we find it!! We LOVE Ely. It’s out there. Middle of nowhere. When people say “this is not the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here” they are looking down on Ely from a nearby hill. The joy of that is that nowhere is where time goes to waste itself. Hum. That was either profound or incredibly stupid. It’s amazing how often it’s hard to tell the difference. I digress. Anyway, it was so fun getting out there riding the train meeting you and just generally hanging out. And yes, wasting a bit of time. Glad you had a nice trip and what an amazing series of videos this has turned out to be.

Well, we did have a grand time in the middle of nowhere, or near it.... if nowhere has a middle 🤔. I loved Ely, such a lovely little place. Loved spending time with you both too. Great times. With these videos, I've set myself a lot of work 🙈😂

Good morning Simon, the 2-8-0 of the Nevada Northern Railway was beautifully filmed. A great meeting from the people at ToyManTelevision. I subscribed to this channel, a great ride on the train and the tour of the workshops. With interesting railway vehicles, such as the snow blower and the crane. Thank you so much! That cooling tower I believe is a double one. Don't quote me just yet, we'll have to check, but I think one engine wouldn't fit the existing tower so they had to build a second one. That may be true 🤔 Cheers! 👍

Ohhhh yes, those roaring deep chimes. America knows how to do whistles! I did once get to fire a Baldwin S-160 when it visited the West Somerset Railway a few years ago. That was awesome, and very different to the Great Western engines I'm used to 😂

The wig wag signal at the grade crossing is cool. I've never seen one operational. The train ride looks fun. In spite of your comments about the cinders, the tunnels look way cool.

Oh I'm happy to put up with the cinders. (Apparently, it was a new Fireman). Yeah the wig-wag is great! I think Dale told me it was restored on some TV show.

Awesome. I watched every minute. There is a wig wag crossing signal at Heritage Park in Calgary, Alberta as well. I really think they are neat. I liked seeing the lightly laid 40 foot rail sections. Could they have been 36? DJ will grow in legend in the next few decades like Dirt did. Thanks Simon for a cool video. I also agree with Dale about the oddity of that font when going backward. Lol

Thanks so much! Umm... yes. It's "My Train's A Comin' " by Unicorn Heads. It's from the KZfaq audio library of royalty free music. It looks like the artist has their own channel on KZfaq, so look 'em up 👍
