Dreamsicle Jellied Salad
I can drained mandarin oranges reserve the juice
1 can drained crushed pineapple reserve the juice
1 pkg orange jello
1 pkg instant vanilla pudding
1 - 8 oz container of cool whip
Measure 1 cup of juice from the reserved fruit juices. If you don’t have quite a cup you can fill the rest with water. Put the juice in a large mixing bowl and add the orange jelly. Mix until well incorporated and you cannot see sugar crystals. Add the pudding mix and mix about two minutes or until it starts to thicken. Add the drained pineapple and mix well before adding the dream whip. Stir until well mixed and then carefully fold in the orange segments.
Put it into the container you intend to serve it in. I like a fancy bowl as it helps to elevate this otherwise simple dish. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. This dish will keep well for two days.
Pistachio Salad
1 box of Pistachio jello mix
1 can pineapple tidbits juice and all
1 or two bananas
2 cups of miniature marshmallows
1-8 oz container of cool whip
Start with a large bowl and dump in the can of pineapple tidbits with the juice. Add the pistachio pudding mix and mix well. Add the marshmallow and the sliced banana. Now add the tub of cool whip and mix well until all the ingredients are incorporated.
With the addition of the fresh bananas this salad will only keep for one day. So make it and use if the same day if you can.
Lime Cottage Cheese Jellied Salad
1 pkg lime jello
1 cup of hot water
½ cup mayonnaise
1 cup creamy cottage cheese
The greens of three spring or green onions.
Mix the lime jello into the hot water and stir until the jello dissolves, stir in the mayonnaise and mix well. Mix in the cottage cheese and green onions. Refrigerate, stirring every 15 minutes for the first hour to insure the cottage cheese doesn’t all sink to the bottom. Cover. This salad will last for two days so can be made well in advance.

The jelly salad I remember was either lemon or lime jello with finely chopped cabbage, onion(green, white or yellow) radish, and celery. It was poured into a tupperware mold, then turned out onto a plate for serving. I also remember tomato aspic being talked about. I never made it but I remember that it was supposed to be difficult to make. Another memory lane recipe is homemade salad dressing. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Would you try making tomato aspic or some home made salad dressings? Like ranch and Italian and thousand island? I end up wasting a lot of bottles because I don’t use them very often and they pass their ‘use by’ date. If we could just make a small amount. I live alone. Thank you for making these videos. It’s like visiting with a treasured friend and trading recipes 🍋🫑🍞🍗

Thank you so much for these “salads”! My family has a crazy set of food issues that include Type I diabetic, celiac, fibromyalgia, anemia, and dairy intolerance. So for Father’s Day yesterday, I made meatloaf (sub ground up nut crackers for bread crumbs), mashed potatoes, gravy made with rice flour and green beans with watermelon as a side. But I had no idea what to make for dessert! You saved the day. I served the orange dreamsicle for dessert. My husband loved it, but the three “kids” devoured it, even going for thirds! I had to promise to make a batch just for him. Yum!

I’m in my 70’s and yes the Jello Salads were amazing and a treat we all looked forward to. I don’t have all the recipes so thank you for giving some of them back. There are two jello recipes I don’t have one was a raspberry a creamy somewhat sweet but tart jello. The other was a lemon jello. It had walnuts, mandarin oranges, bananas that may be actually the whole recipe? Which I think now that it is. But I would love to know how she made the raspberry jello salad. It is something I grew up with but my nieces and nephews also because it was grandma who made it for them. So I guess it’s our generation that needs to put recipe books together as a gift to all so every special recipes are right there for them and future generations. Something I should have done, would have been to help my mom to organize all the recipes she had collected. Many just cut out from magazines and newspapers! Thank you for bringing back the special favorite recipes I have missed for so many years! Happy Easter☦️🙏🤗🐣

We always have the dream cycle salad and the pistachio salad at Christmas. Actually that’s what we call it is Christmas salad. We put maraschino cherries in it instead of bananas so you have red and green. It’s been my favorite since I was little and I’m 53 so it’s been a long time. I am in your age group and yes, we grew up with these. My husband remembers the lime/cottage cheese was set up in a casserole dish, cut in 3 in squares and served on a lettuce leaf. It was his mom’s favorite at Luby’s cafeteria. They even put a small amount of horseradish in it! @@oursilvermoments6028 you are welcome. Yeah not a lot of folks down in the USA remember it by that name either. Either way it is delicious no matter the name.

Are you using mayonnaise or miracle whip?? First, you called it miracle web? B, did you call that mayonnaise. there isn't difference. so I've just wondered which I'm supposed to be using? I can't wait to make this for the holidays. it's an odd combination so I can't wait to see what my family thinks.

I live in the southeastern US. We love our jello salads. Thanks for the recipes.......I think I've read the pistachio salad was served at the Watergate hotel. I don't know if that's true or not...........the bowl you're using looks like one I have from a vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster mixer. Things were so much better quality back then.

Thank you for your comments. We had a lovely array of jellied salads for Christmas and the family loves them. Yes, sadly today things are not meant to last and poorly made. Happy New Year!

I cannot believe you people eat this stuff. These are the strangest dishes I have ever learned about, especially the last one. I had no idea this type of thing was going on. I want to make this and bring to a potluck just to see the reactions.

Your pistachio salad is a "cold salad"" or dessert but not a jellied salad because there is no jello of any kind in it. Sorry love. It does sound great as a dessert however.

I AM SURELY GOING TO MAKE THE CREAM SICKLE SALAD. I ALWAYS MAKE THE GREEN PISTACHIO SALAD. WE CALL THAT ONE GREEN STUFF. THE LAST ONE PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE I'M NOT A FAN OF LIME JELLO. ALTHOUGH I DO MAKE A FRUIT SALAD WITH COTTAGE CHEESE AND COOL WHIP WITH EVERY KIND OF FRUIT YOU LIKE. THERE IS ALSO A STRAWBERRY SALAD CALLED STRAWBERRY FLUFF THAT IS REALLY GOOD THAT I TASTED THIS WEEKEND THAT I THOUGHT WAS MISSING SOMETHING AND NOW THAT I SEE YOUR ORANGE SALAD I BET THIS ONE NEEDS A BOX OF STRAWBERRY JELLO. I AM FROM THE MICHIGAN IN THE US AND AM SUBSCRIBING.
