Many thanks for this. I did just this to my Morrison's bargains last week (55p each!!! or 90 cents) so I know I am on the right track.

Love your video. It's been 2years I'm an orchid addict. You should make a video about orchid watering you have a good voice and people would most definitely listen. Also it looks you're watering differently. I would really love to see a progressive video of that. New growth on orchids is so rewarding even to see ;-) I didn't even know it was possible before I saw it with my own eyes. And I finally got my first two flower spikes!

I've done the same thing from the home improvement stores here in the States. I've gotten so addicted to doing this I carry bottles of water in my car and stop at these stores specifically with the intention of looking for phals on the clearance rack!

Yup - put the plastic orchid pot inside a ceramic pot - put about an inch of pebbles in the bottom of the ceramic pot, and then make sure there is always some water in there. They won't touch the roots, but they will provide plenty of localized humidity.

My orchid is putting out a new primary spike just after the new leaf growth complete..so i cut both the old spikes all the way down just to make sure it focus all the energy on the new flower spike!! Can't wait for the blooms.....

I'm wondering if what you're describing is new roots--they don't look like what we normally think of as root-like, being smooth, mostly the same diameter all the way along and growing, as often as not, into the air as well as the soil. Without a picture, it's hard to say--but new roots are often greenish, too.

I use a product called Orchid Focus, which you can get easily on ebay or in most supermarkets and garden centers.

Depending on how wilted and wrinkled it is, it might be dead. But they are also very hardy. If it were me, I would let it sit in a good amount of water for 2-3 days. If it doesn't visibly recover in that time, it might be a lost cause.
@VinceSamios11 жыл бұрын
Definitely I would say.

I have a very small plant actually a seedling, and I used a spray for fungal, recommended by an Home Depot guy, and when I used it, almost killed al the leaves, some still survive, I think..., one of the seedlings lost all the leaves but the roots and they still alive, but without anything else...will this comes back to life?...I am using all the food and help for growing. What do you think?~

Lovely demonstration--I've had some good luck with orchids in similar situations. My problems arise from a lack of humidity--I lived in Utah for years, and now live near Denver, which isn't any wetter. Absent a terrarium, do you have any suggestions for keeping up the humidity to keep them healthy?

Do these plants happen to have the moss plug in the center? Do you not clean all the media off and repot?

I wish you were my neighbour I need an orchid buddy haha. I bought five the other day from homebase, so cheap! I would have bought them all if I could! A few I know will pick up, I did the same with the stalks. But there's a couple which leaves have become so limp I'm a little worried about them. I keep misting them and have given them a good watering and taken them out of the dreaded moss as that always kills them for me! Any tips? I hate seeing a dying orchid!

I bought an orchid with 2 spikes and all the flowers already fall...so i cut both spikes an inch above the top node....but it been nearly 2 months now...i can't see any new spike growing...but i think it put all the energy growing a new leaf because there is a new healthy leaf growing from the terminal...so should i cut both the spikes all the way down or should i wait longer? But both the spikes still looks very green and healthy..Thanks in advance

Orchids are super easy - super super easy. Just treat them a little mean, don't keep them wet and cut of spikes which aren't working for you, and you will be rewarded with super blooms. Yup - my trusty swiss army knife :-)

OKAY ... I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE ASKING THIS ... I went and subscribed like you said, and you did NOT give that update! My daughter, 17, has been going ga-ga over some orchids on sale at Lowe's for $14. I realize there's not a whole heck of a lot of chance that they'll reduce it to $3, BUT I thought she could go tell the manager that IF they decide to get rid of the orchids, that she will buy one for $3, using the point that it takes about six months to fully revive them. (Yes, they're a garden center, but they're also a business - get 'em in, move 'em out!) HOWEVER, I am not sure if simply cutting them is enough, and I don't want us to kill them by adding too much fertilizer. PLEASE please let us know about an update~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how can you revive an orchid that has been overwatered? i bought a bargain orchid once to try and revive it but when i got home the roots were packed in super soggy moss and even when i tried repotting it it still died
@vkpenterprisesllc11869 жыл бұрын
I have noticed if you put ground cinnamon on their roots when they have been water logged and put the cinnamon on the moss/bark it helps pull them back almost 100% every time.

hey vince i'm planning to buy some bargain orchids as well but i wanted to try transferring them to a hydroton vase, do you have experience with this technique
@VinceSamios10 жыл бұрын
yeah its very easily done, just make sure you have orchid fertilizer as hydroton contains no nutrients. Orchids don't need much and usually the bark provides everything they need. It's very easily done, just remove all the bark from the roots and stick it in the hydroton, not too tight, but so its firm and doesn't move. Easy

I planted my orchids in soil and peat moss they are very dark green and growing like crazy must be 24 inches tall; should they not be in that type of soil.
@wandermethis709710 жыл бұрын
good question, but it could be many things affecting the high growth rates...First what kind of orchids are they. Could be associated with many factores, I.E. Light. Huminity, tempeature, it's new home etc, etc... .and exactly what kind of soil did you use? I Normanaly use the standard Fir bark, (medium cut), moss, and large white permilie compound. They must like what your doing properly and like it's new home...

Heya, Just bought from Tesco a dying orchid, really tall, gorgeous flowers and buds, but when I got home I realised it has been over-watered and the roots are mushy and damaged. Changed the compost, the original one was full of fungus and smelled like rot. I was thinking of putting it in a bag, but I just want to know if there is a chance it make it.
