In our latest episode of awesome, Brent and Shaun dive deep into the all-new Toyota 300 Series LandCruiser to see if it truly lives up to the hype. Spoiler alert: we're not entirely convinced and we wanna know why Toyota keeps vetoing the V8?! Who's running things over there, Klaus Schwab?!
We have to admit for a 4WD, the sleek design choices on the 300 Series are pretty impressive. The vented seats are a nice touch, adding a level of 4x4 comfort that we can definitely get behind… But the real question is, are these upgrades enough to make us overlook the downsides? From the major changes under the bonnet to some surprising changes, we're breaking down three reasons why the 300 Series might not be the upgrade from the 200 Series Land Cruiser that everyone's hoping for.
Is the 300 Series a new off-road champion, or is it destined to be just another Prado "Mum bus"? Watch to find out and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I see a big change of opinion in your future as you spend more time in a 300 series. I’ve got both a 200 and a 300 and the 300 is leaps and bounds a better vehicle.

But yes, that v8 was lazy and heavy on gas. I agree my 300 petrol much better than V8 d

I have a 200 and a 300 diesel. I've had a 300 petrol... The drive train on a diesel 300 is only better than the 200 at full throttle. The lag is crap. Floor it and NOTHING happens for 4 second. The 200 is bigger, and built better. On dirt roads the rear bumper on the 300 gather all the dust making it impossible to get anything from the back without needing a shower. 300 is a great car. The 200 is a land cruiser.

After having a 200 , sold it after 2 years due to steering issues ,Toyota was no help at all ,first car I have ever sold for 10 k more than I paid for it. now have a 300 , steers great , but ,same size outside as 200 , but only half the size inside , almost no rear leg room , rear seats will not fold forward unless you move the front seats forward first Unable to see out of the rear view mirror due to the second roe middle seat head rest completely blocking the view.have removed mine .keep it in the back for when needed , 3,rd roe seats are rubbish , tail gate and small fuel tanks a big step backwards, v6 is a lot noisier than the v8, v6 has good power above 2500 rpm but lacks power at low revs , very sluggish off the mark when towing even a small camper trailer Apart from better steering , big step backwards All in all you are correct in that it is just a over priced Prado with a long nose and a extra 2 cylinder added up front.

When i first got the 300 i thought it felt like a soccer mum car and for the price i wanted more luxury like a full digital dash atleast. After dropping another 40k in mods it is a beast now, i look down on the 200 series when i see them now, no comparison

Spent 1500km in a new one as a hire car in NQ. Bonnet shape makes it feel much bigger than it is with poor visibility over the front corners. Tailgate on the GXL with gas struts almost gave me an uppercut the first few times (the lock is up high and when you open it you almost can’t get out of the way quick enough without the bottom of the door clipping you under the chin. Leg room in the front is compromised by the left and right hand side trims (in gxl form) being hard plastic that conveniently stick out and dig into your knees. Thankfully the padded upmarket models don’t seem too bad. A bit rattly under low loads almost like a 4 cylinder Ute. Other than all than ride is better than my 200, seats are more supportive and the power delivery is leaps ahead of the 200. Will it last the test of time? For now I’m happy in love with my 200.
@BAWAutomotive

No one likes an unexpected uppercut! And yeah, visibility and legroom quirks can definitely be a pain. Only time will tell, if it can be as good as the 200 series.

Primary reason why Ive bought Lexus/Toytoas is they usually have larger displacement under tuned or de tuned engines, Therefore with a little bit of love and tlc they last forever. IF your running shit on the ragged edge all the time and its revving its guts off to throw all that weight around then yeah, its gunna wear out quicker than the slower older v8 or anything else.

Absolutely, mate! Lexus and Toyota know how to build engines that go the distance.

Spot on,had a Disco 4 for 10yrs,now have had a LC200 for almost 4 yrs,both had a split tailgate,which we love.Bigger fuel tank,more room,middle row of seats moves,split sun visor,the 200 will be with us for a while.The 200 is also a proven package,there is not much to complain about.In our opinion,it is a better vehicle for what we need than the 300.The only real advantage of the 300 is more power,but a good tune of the 200 will sort that out.Fuel burn,difference is negligable,i think Toyota quote around 6%.
@BAWAutomotive

The split tailgate is definitely a game-changer, and all those extra features make the LC200 a solid choice.

I'm finding the engine (stock) is better in every way. More power, torque, smoother, tows better, and the gearbox holds gears under load! Couldn't get this from my previous 200. All I'm hearing from performance upgrade mechanics is that its a better and stronger engine with a much higher breaking point and therefore scope to get higher performance. Lets face it - the V8 is 16 year old technology. The engine should not be a point of contention - unless you just love a V8 for sentimental reasons. Me I prefer a better power plant.
@BAWAutomotive

It's hard to argue with more power, torque, and smoother towing. Nostalgia for the V8 is strong, but it’s great to see the new tech delivering where it counts.

Same unfortunately they replaced like a rubber thingy and they told me its going to be better the sound is less noticeable but still same vibrations from time to time and plenty of interior sounds from steering and everywhere. They are not built for rugged use anymore that what I thought after 74k of use

@BaileyEthanRawson
@BaileyEthanRawson Ай бұрын
@@jamesm6341 it will definitely be a sales hit, as with the old Prado, which is why they are way more common than both the LC200 and LC300. Bigger LC has always been the better option if you’re towing, and it’s the same story with the LC300. Prado is an easier vehicle to live with in town.

Ive been in the business of 4wd training for over 30 years and have had the pleasure of owning from FJ55 to current LC wagons. My 2010 VX 200 did over 450km and it is still going strong with a mate who bought it. The 300 is another level above the 200, not only comfort but also capability. Yes there are things about the 200 i miss, Split tailgate, KDSS and the sound of the V8. My 200 goes like a cut cat and leaves my tuned 200 for dead. I have the pleasure of driving all types of vehicle in my business of 18yrs and as an instructor in any brands, i still love my 300.
