3 Sectional Staff Double-Single Spin Tutorial

This is a very unique 3 Sectional Staff spinning technique that is not as hard as it looks. I break it down into 4 parts to isolate each hand's movement as well as the combination of both to a complete technique.

I have followed your training videos for a long time. Thank you for keeping them coming. Have you thought of doing an online learning program, where students who don't have teachers near them, or don't have normal schedules could actually learn and advance through a structured curriculum? That would be sooooooo awesome!!!

I like the three section staff. My SiGung (Sifu Derek Frearson) was here couple years ago at my kwoon and taught us a seven star praying mantis form. I kept hitting the back of my head when I was supposed to spin over my back and catch one end of it lol. Finally got it but haven't practiced it in a while. Watching this has got me motivated on it.

It's a pretty fun weapon and not as ridiculous as many people think. I use this particular technique (not the continuous spin, but the block and hit) all the time in sparring.

I actually don't have a black belt in karate or taekwondo. The only rank I hold is in Kung Fu and Tai Chi.

Does training with the staff and Nunchaku help with 3 section staff training?

Absolutely, many of the combat techniques are related to staff, and double short sticks, and safely spinning/momentum control is almost exactly the same, although on a larger scale. Besides the length of the sections, the big difference is the point of connection as most 3 section staffs have shackles and not swivels.

i have one and it is of really dense wood and i am scared of practicing with it.. last time i did i hit my elbow so many times that it was swollen hahaha

The heavy staff is no joke! That reminds me of the story of a student that went outside to practice one afternoon, and when he woke up it was night... That's definitely a sign to get a foam one for working on new techniques haha!
