I have a degree in Cosmetic Chemistry and have my own indie beauty brand. An adult daughter snatched a product from her senior and lucid mother and told her: my students make this for me all the time. Leave it. Then the mother turned to me, smiled and said: I still think yours are very nice! She didn’t buy anything but she made my day.

I have a business with my mom and she makes tapestry blankets and she made a Barbie themed coach blanket. It was smaller so she was just asking for $75, a lady came by and asked how much it was and she told her it was $75. She got mad and told my mom she was asking to much and she needed to lower the price. She wasn’t even nice either she was being very rude, I wanted to go off so bad but it’s a customer so

I had several young girls stop by my booth at a recent fair. A few were interested in my products and their friend commented "don't buy any of this. I'm going to learn to crochet over the summer and I'll make this stuff for you for free." I smiled at her and told her how wonderful it was that she was interested in the craft and that I have been crocheting for many years and simply love creating my beautiful items. I also told her to be patient with herself because the learning curve takes awhile to master lol. Her friends left with her but they kept looking back at my table. I actually sold my highest amount the following weekend at my next show. Everything works out in the end.

This past weekend I was at a Dianne los muertos festival with my daughter,the first booth she walked up to was a crochet plush table and she fell in love with these penguins in shells. Now, I do crochet and usually she gets my ”first try” plushies and yes I could have made this for her but 1. I feel it’s important to support small business and 2. It actually would have been more expensive to buy all the yarn colors for the one she got. I typically don’t sell my stuff and just make stuff as gifts for birthdays or special occasions and don’t have tons of colors lying around so if it makes her happy then why not. I even stayed a bit and talked about crochet with the business owner. Idk why people can’t just be kind.

Such wisdom in one so young. Excellent advice for life in general. Camryn hits the nail on the head by considering that we do not know what battle a person is experiencing. These people often have NO insight into how they affect others it is simply their "way of being" in the world. I love the animated facial expressions re: grumpy, mean people... so funny.

Ok so second show down and a guy comments on my lemon wreath I made. It had artifical Lemons on it. He complemented me at first saying they "looked great" then he asked "if the Lemons were real" and I replied "no they are artifical". And his reply was "Oh. So they're crap then." I just smiled and replied yes. Lol. Kept on fluffing those bows. Haha. I was a little dumbfounded how I was going to make the real Lemons stick and not rot on that wreath but there you go.

Good advice! I participated in a summer long craft sale and fortunately only met nice people. One piece of advice my son gave me was don’t under price your product. If someone wants your product they will pay what it’s worth to you, if they are not interested, a low price won’t entice them. I was a sucker for little kids who had sad eyes and gave them freebies but I am a grandma who has it as a hobby not a means of income.
@camryns_cute_creations
@camryns_cute_creations 8 ай бұрын
That is such good advice to tell your son! We must recognize the value we and our products have, and realize it's more important to find the people who also see that value, rather than try to lower our worth to those who don't!

This video is awesome! So at my last show, the only thing I forgot was small bills for change back and I had my sister going to get some for me asap. So I was already trying to handle it, I had a couple ladies in my booth they both wanted a couple pumpkins, one of them tried paying with cash, I wholeheartedly apologized for the inconvenience of not being able to make change, and she looked at me and goes "wow, okay that's kind of a big thing to forget" her friend looked at her in shock 😅she said she couldn't believe she said that to me! I understand this way of doing it, but I feel like it's a very American thing to keep the 'customer' happy. In my country people are very direct, so it can come of rude more easily. But i've found that letting people know that 'wow that was a little rude' actually makes them think to watch what they say. Keeping people accountable for what they say and that words can hurt is important to me. I don't want them as a customer if they're rude so they can kindly F off. This may be a very my country way of thinking, but I just simply not let people get away with being shitty and thinking I'll still be nice.

You're very right in many ways! How we engage socially regarding our emotions is incredibly cultural-centered. I have travelled abroad from the USA to anywhere distant, so I haven't been immersed in a culture that operates significantly differently. However, I have interacted with individuals from different cultures, and they do have a different understanding of the social "rules". On many levels, I agree that we should also hold each other accountable for our attitudes and behavior. However, in such a conflict-averse culture like my part of the USA, confronting someone like that, while perhaps respectable to viewers, also turns them away as we would be seen as a potential source of conflict. I really appreciate your input! Cultural-related conversations can often be very relative!

Yeah I’m a newbie marketer and business owner. At my last market this guy was buying for his wife who was at another table and he wanted me to come down on the total by $2 haha. I get that he wanted to pay an even $40 but I stuck my guns (politely) when I wouldn’t budge he said “Okay. Explain to me why this one is this price.” So I did! And once I did (more yarn, how many hours it took and how much stuffing) he was more amenable and he bought from me anyway! And this dude was NOT a small fry! 😂 in the back of my head I was like “Please don’t eat me!”😂😂 but thank you for this video because I am an over thinker who imagination likes to run wild 😂 so having these steps will definitely help ground me. ❤❤❤

I think it’s also important to remember that there are more good days and good things about what you are doing than the few amount of grumpy people. I didn’t really have much of a ride experience however, at one of my shows there was a woman who was talking about spending $15 for a crochet plushie, and the vendor neighbor next door was eavesdropping (was also a crocheter) and spoke to that customer and said “I could give you something else for $15” so she practically stole a customer from me.

Yes, I totally recommend finding a way to make your presence known in a non-overt way, such as moving near them to straighten up items and such. Also, if they are still bothering you, you could say something like, "Hi! How are you doing today? Can I help you find anything?" Not words that attack them or anything, but rather starting an interaction that interrupts their "gab fest" so they are incentivized to take it elsewhere if they wish to continue :) Great questions!

Hello. Love your information.Thank you for it, because I am getting into Epoxy/ UV resin as a means to help support creating music/music videos and not working jobs I HATE. I love crafting and talking about art and music, so I truly believe craft shows and fairs may be a good future for my income. I would like to give you some information as well. In your audio, may I please suggest using a compressor and crossfades? =) It'll improve the audio quality on your videos tremendously. Pro Tools has a free version and I believe it comes with a built in compressor, and plenty of KZfaqrs can better explain how to use what ever you pick for compressor and how to do crossfading than I could on a short comment. Compressor will take out the sharpness in the sound and crossfades will help quiet the beginning and ends of audio clips. Hoping you find this helpful. Craft on.

To get the full Amazon experience you must pay for a yearly membership like WM + etc. I have been that person with one crystal vendor out of 3 at my flea. She prices $30-40 dollars over market value. I will buy a $20 and up item without issue but won't overpay, at a flea market. Many go to the flea looking for 'treasures' or unique items like that Picasso painting worth millions sitting unnoticed on someone's tarp. Fleas/craft show are mostly about community, chit chat with your neighbor, some vendors play up to the regular customers get to know them. I would feel very uncomfortable with someone taking pictures of my items might want to consider putting items/signs on a trademark or watermark background. Seems like you can take some yarn or leather and put it together try and sell it but without the creative eye or process nobody will buy it. Sure, I can take roof tiles from Home Depot and staple them to my roof does that mean water won't get in and it will look correct, and my home insurance will cover?! Answer is no. lol :-) Keep going matters not.

How do you handle people taking pictures of your items so “someone else” can make them? Most customers ask if they can take a picture, which I don’t mind. However, I had a family come up to my table and the daughter literally started taking pictures of everything on my tables so the person they knew could make them for her. The mom was even telling her what else to take a picture of. It was really obnoxious and rude! All they had to do was ask but they didn’t and that’s what really irked me!! I didn’t say anything as I was never actually spoken to. They didn’t even ask what kind of yarn I used, they wanted the person they knew to figure it out so she could use it. I’m assuming the person they were referring to used acrylic yarn because they kept mentioning how her items were not nearly as soft as mine. In my mind I was just thinking they really have no clue how much chenille and blanket yarn costs and if they wanted that person to make everything I had, they better be ready to fork out a few hundred dollars so she could make everything for them. It’s just the pure audacity of some people! 😒
@camryns_cute_creations

I very sorry that experience happened! Some people certainly do have a different social perspective of how to respect others! In those scenarios, I've found the best option to either: A) Interact with them by speaking to them (could be small talk or whatever), as this will disrupt them and make them more carefully consider their actions as they've now interacted with you and can't ignore the fact this is your work, or B) Completely ignore it and realize 99% of people will not go home and make it themselves, as it takes skill and time and dedication! If someone says something along the lines of "I could make this" my first thought is always, "Why didn't you?" and then, "Perhaps you are able, but will you?"
