3 steps to sell before you create your course!

Have you ever delayed a project or task you’re working on simply because it’s not “perfect” or up to your standards? Days, weeks, perhaps even months pass by and still zero progress has been made since you started. Sound familiar?
Speaking from experience, as a recovering perfectionist, it took me years to truly understand the beauty and power of testing fast and evolving with time. Nonetheless, one of the most common and confusing questions that comes up when I talk about pre-selling is:
“How do you sell something before you actually create it?”
I know it sounds crazy, but it’s actually not as complicated as you’d think. This strategy is time tested and proven in several different industries, including an online course business. Rightfully so, as I’ve painfully made some big mistakes myself doing things out of order, so I hope this saves you the time and headache it cost me in the past.
So, I’m going to dive into what it takes to sell your online course before actually creating it and the 3 steps and strategy behind pre-selling, which looks like:
1. Confidence in Your Offer
2. Cashflow to Fund Your Business
3. Client Results
True story… Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, understood that efficiency in getting your product or program into the market and getting human beings to test right away is the key to success and implementation. He didn’t wait to get his product out into the market, he tested and evolved his offer. Since then, Apple has released a total of 34 iPhones over the years! 🤯

🎉 I highly recommend you follow Sunny's advice. Take it from someone who spent years building the perfect financial literacy course for kids and then ended up in a coma and losing her entire course and having to rebuild from scratch as a now severely disabled person that it's just not worth it to put all your work in first. Awesome video Sunny! I really like your first step :) I think if you can nail the research part of your course, you have a very high probability of success. One thing I like to do is survey my audience once I know I have a good course idea. I ask 3 questions. 1)When it comes to (course idea/topic), what is your biggest struggle? 2) What, if any, product, method or program have you tried in the past and why didn’t it work?” and 3) If I were to wave a magic wand and you achieve (dream outcome), how would you feel? What would you do?”. The answers to these questions help me know their current struggles (that I must overcome with my course), what their dream outcomes are (benefits), and what they have tried in the past and why it didn't work (to figure out what objections they might have/what crucial content my courses should contain) On top of that, I get some awesome insights into the way they describe certain struggles/problems which I then use in my marketing/copy. I can't even tell you how many times I get comments like "OMG you basically described me!" all because of the insight these 3 questions give me :)

Wow, phenomenal training, strategy, and advice! You're obviously a master of the online course creation process, but also a great teacher. My two key takeaways: Price point- I have heard you talked about this in your other videos yet it has not sank in until today the true value of what I am offering/my course and though convinced, I have to work on the confidence part. Second, the course outline- the ideal clients would want the results asap! This took the pressure off from worrying what all to include in the course. Now I can move on and get to it! :). I was told to do this before I created my course. However I did not know how to explain what I did so different even before I had created it, so I spend more time on trying to sell rather than just create the first draft, test it and then sell it. Now I’m in a good place, but this advice was less than worthless to me when I started out. I sometimes feel like people who teach forget that the person may lack crucial skills like I did and time to figure out how a skeleton version of the product could work before I could even begin to sell.

Love these ideas and the concept. However, how are you supposed to jump in an offer your program or course live with those initial batch of people when you haven’t designed the curriculum yet? In my case it’s largely needing to be PowerPoint and things that are on demonstration on the screen or activities they have to do on their own so it wouldn’t work just being on a zoom talking type class. With my face showing etc. what do people do in those cases?

You could totally do it live, but call it a workshop class. So you show them a technique, and then give them time to try it out. I would hesitate to do pre-recorded videos early on because you run the risk of incorrectly assuming where they are skill-wise or what they already know. Doing it live will show you if you missed something or added something that wasn’t needed. And always share the zoom recording with your members in a private FB group with time stamps so they can go back and rewatch it.

You're delivering each module of your course individually and live. You don't need to create the entire course from start to finish. You can deliver live each module and create them as individual presentations to deliver live

I consider buying your course but I am not sure if my nishe fits and is scalable. I am wellness advocate of mlm essential oils company. As you might know there are many of us and mostly teach all the same way for free. All over the internet. What I want to offer is my methodology how I got rid of sleeping issues and depression, cleanse and stabilized my body using essential oils. I literaly transformed to the light :) This is more of spiritual way of teaching. It is very simple as it has only 5 steps but It can be in step 3 adjustable to work on emotional healing/blocks according what is needed at the time. Would it be suitable for your course? greetings
