Intolerance of uncertainty is the main "fuel" that drives the worry engine. If you worry a lot, there's a good chance that intolerance of uncertainty plays a big role in that worry and associated anxiety. Intolerance of uncertainty is a well-known factor that contributes to excessive worry in Generalized Anxiety Disorder and worries more generally. This video explains the concept of intolerance of uncertainty as akin to a "psychological allergy" that leads people to experience a lot of anxiety and worry in response to relatively low levels of uncertainty. I also discuss how intolerance of uncertainty increases worry and anxiety by acting as a lens through which a person views the world, resulting in the person always considering all of the negative possible outcomes from an uncertain situation and failing to recognize the possible neutral or positive outcomes that could arise as well.
