In order to better manage worry, you have to understand how it works and recognize what you are worrying about. However, many people don't know how worry works and often are so efficient at worrying that they do not know what they are worrying about or even when they are worrying. This is often the case in people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and people who are worriers. Therefore, the first skill for better managing worry is worry awareness training. This video discusses a model to understand the basic engine of how worry works and how to improve worry awareness by using a worry diary.

You have explained the way my brain works perfectly haha. I usually say my original worry is the original movie and all the what ifs that follow are the potential sequels to that original "movie". I've had worries that have had many many sequels and it is INCREDIBLY exhausting mentally, emotionally and physically. I'd love to be able to get it under control and not always have it feel so consuming.

Thanks, you're smart! ...I have a question.. Can they be summed up as ..if they are Type 1 worries ..I have to Implement the seven problem solving skills that mentioned in other videos .. If they are Type 2 I accept the uncertainty right? My problem was about a surgery...I made my decision to do it I made a plan about things that I have to do now , like finance that it used to do the surgery..and the obstacles I'm facing now .. it's all now according to the plan... but there's still some ... what if' .. what if I get harmed by this surgery and what if the surgery failed.....you know..so on .. I hope I get your response 🌹

Ok, so this is helpful. But at first when attempting the awareness exercise anxiety sets in. It's as if beginning this process is threatening. And it is! I think worry for me and maybe for others is an avoidance mechanism? Starting this documentation process and taking command (responsibility) for how we think and live opens up some uncharted territory. It's been very helpful thank you. But there is definitely some "molting" going on.
@DrRamiNader
@DrRamiNader 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe - you are absolutely correct. It's not uncommon when people begin to start to pay attention to their worries, they feel more anxious. Often, people cope with their worries by trying not to think about them. Worry awareness training is the opposite - it's examining the worry in order to do something about it.

I've been white knuckling this worry/anxiety issue my whole life. Just downloading and using this first worksheet is a game changer for me. I've never trusted these kinds of practical tools, believing instead that I can solve problems by personal will-power. Having the worksheet and taking the time to fill it out makes the process concrete. And it requires the patient work that I've always avoided. And it gives a degree of separation between the craziness, and my own true identity. And so the anxiety response is diminishing. I find that discerning the core worry is revealing. Regardless of the superficial worry, the imagined threat at my core always reduces to loss of respect, social standing, respect, to be discarded rejected. And that is a completely irrational scenario, as I have committed and loving spouse and friends. There is a background tape playing in my personality that expresses strong needs and emotions but is not realistic.

Hello! What if I don't have any worries at the moment when the alarm goes off (and I'm supposed to fill in diary)? Shall I put it off until I feel I'm getting anxious? Thanks for your answer in advance.

And the second question. What if I can't do that at the same time every day because of my work? Can I do that whenever I have an opportunity? (still three times a day). Will it somehow affect the results? Thanks.
@DrRamiNader

When completing a worry diary, if a person is not worrying about a particular topic at the time they are supposed to complete the worry diary, what they can do is think about what is something they had been worrying about since the last time they did the worry diary. Also, if a person cannot complete the worry diary at the exact same time each day, that's fine. Obviously, the more data they collect, the better, but it does not have to be a rigid thing that is done at exactly the same time each day. That is just a guide to help ensure that a person does not forget to do it.
