In this video I give you 3 reasons why the 2003-2009 jdm Legacy GT is the Best Subaru by far! EJ20Y
My Legacy:
2004 JDM Subaru Legacy GT 2.0 twinscroll turbo BP5 WAGON
5 speed MANUAL
Mitsubishi TD04 HLA 19T turbo (OEM for the ej20y) (ej20x has the vf38 for 2004)
These cars have Dual AVCS which is basically Subaru’s form of (Honda) “vtec” with a change in camshaft profile (INSANE!)
*Now for 3 Things I HATE: • 3 Things I HATE about ...
Video of THIS exact Legacy 0-100km/h: • 2004 JDM Subaru Legacy...
Check out the wiki article on these fourth gen Legacy's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_...)
EJ20Y (and EJ20X): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_...
^All written below was copied and pasted from this article ^
Based on the same engine platform; the X designation indicates an automatic package, and the Y designation indicates a manual package. The EJ20X engine was introduced in the 2003 Legacy GT, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, and the EJ20Y engine was introduced in the 2004 Legacy GT, with a five-speed manual transmission.
The EJ20X and EJ20Y are open deck engines whereby the cylinder walls were supported at the three and nine o’clock positions. It came with an aluminium alloy block with 92 mm (3.62 in) bores - with cast iron cylinder liners - and a 75 mm (2.95 in) stroke for a capacity of 498.6 cc (30.43 cu in) per cylinder, with thicker cylinder walls than EJ25. The crankcase for the EJ20X and EJ20Y engines had five main bearings and the flywheel housing was cast with the crankcase for increased rigidity. The EJ20X engine is understood to have a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, but cast aluminium pistons with forged crowns. The EJ20X and EJ20Y engines had an aluminium alloy cylinder head with cross-flow cooling, double overhead camshafts (DOHC) per cylinder bank and four valves per cylinder that were actuated by roller rocker arms.
The EJ20X and EJ20Y engines were equipped with Subaru's ‘Dual Active Valve Control System’ (‘Dual AVCS’) which provided variable intake and exhaust valve timing. The Legacy GT, the EJ20X engine was fitted with a twin-scroll IHI VF38 turbocharger; the EJ20Y engine, however, had a larger twin-scroll Mitsubishi TD04 HLA 19T turbocharger. For the revised BL.II Legacy GT, both the EJ20X and EJ20Y had an IHI VF44 turbocharger for the initial 2006 model year, replaced the following year with the IHI VF45.
Both came with a 9.5:1 compression and a fast spooling turbo yields a torque filled performance. 265-280 bhp (198-209 kW; 269-284 PS)
Turbos:
IHI VF38 (automatic, 03-06)
Mitsubishi TD04 HLA 19T (manual, 03-06)
IHI VF44 (manual and automatic, 06MY only)
IHI VF45 (manual and automatic, 06-09MY)
Usage: EJ20X/EJ20Y
03~09 BL and BP Legacy GT[6]
07-11 Subaru impreza gt
HERE IS A FORUM OF THE LEGACY MAKING 300WHP STOCK TURBO: legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...
(Wouldn't that make the td04hla-19t the highest flowing oem turbo that Subaru has offered?
That flows more then the VF36/37 and people get over 300 whp out of them.... Why hasn't there been more talk about this turbo?
It looks like even has a titanium wheel...)
(Saw you post after posting mine above. Nekdut is running the Mitsu with 18g wheel, pm him for more info. I am not positive about the 320 whp mark, but 300 whp I would say it's safe bet - that's what vf40-18g hybrid can achieve.
This turbo will for sure have better bottom than JDM STI turbo and respond faster -ergo, fatter powerband. Fat powerband is what makes a car truly fun to drive, not crazy top end only...
You can get avo tmic that fits that turbo or any fmic. The flange is located slightly different but that usually is not a problem with front mounts (avo fmic is designed with both).)

Another thing I realize now re-watching this video is the THROTTLE RESPONSE! Nothing worse than a "sporty" vehicle with bad throttle response. These Legacies are very touchy on the throttle and I LOVE IT! Quick downshifts are a breeze and you feel like a badass driving it. (If you are teaching someone to drive manual, throw it in eco-mode and that will dull throttle and lower boost levels to make it more beginner friendly)

Best part about these things is the value of you ask me. Pretty decent cars but mint ones around 100 000km’s with the manual are easily sub 9k, which is just wild compared to what 9k gets you here.

Hey, thanks for watching! I'm not sure of the conversion, but in CAD they go from $5000-7000 for the ej20x auto. And $7000-9000 for the ej20y manual here. Its funny how the manual's are cheaper from the factory and then develop a "tax" over the years. Cheers!

Cool vid bro.. and a nice clean GT aswell.. Just thought I'd mention that you might want to get a tune to suit the lower rated fuel you guys get over there. In Japan and here in NZ, we run 98 octane at the pumps which is what the JDMs are tuned to run on from factory.. Cheers
@JWheelie
@JWheelie 3 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, Thanks! I think its pretty sweet too ;) You know what, that was weighing on my mind heavy for 6 months after I imported it. I read a lot online about it. My importer said to run shell 91, however I usually run the cheaper 91 (Safeway by my house). I haven't had an issue with it yet, but if its tuned for 98 octane thats quite the difference. Maybe I'll get a price on what it would cost. However, I would also love to get a dyno tune and pull some more power... but its just been so good to me and pretty darn fast already the way it is. Everyone says (turbo) Subaru's are unreliable, but I see it as the ones with aftermarket parts or tunes that have the most issues. Anyway, I totally understand what you are saying. Thanks for looking out for us Canadians :). Take care

@@mdashcube2476 MON or RON? japan Uses RON and Canada uses Mon, the 91 is equivalent to japanese 98, which is bad quality, where i live the (imported) cars usually make more power stock, just because we have better gas.
@mdashcube2476
@mdashcube2476 2 жыл бұрын
@@JTmoto yeah gas is an issue too depending on where you live, anything above 90/91 and above is always best for high permanence cars and especially Subaru. I have a 2007 Subaru Legacy Spec-B and I love it very much. I realise that, depending on where I buy gas the car performs differently. I’ve gotten gas that says it’s 90 octane and when I start driving after a period of time I feel that I lost power.

I just bought my FIRST JDM 03 Subaru Legacy straight from Tokyo Japan last year, love the car, love how it drives and feels, the seats and the gauges 😍 something I’m wondering about is on the back hatch, the reverse lights why is there a halogen on the left and what looks to be an LED on the right? The one to my right the LED looking one doesn’t come on when I reverse?
@JWheelie
@JWheelie 3 жыл бұрын
You may have figured this out already, BUT the left one is the only reverse light (white). Then the right one is a rear fog light (red). You activate it with the same toggle as the front fog lights, but you have to turn the dial a little further.
