A CT heart scan that yields a coronary calcium score is a wonderfully useful and empowering test to have. It yields a reliable gauge of cardiovascular risk, better than cholesterol testing, better than risk calculations, better than any blood test.
Unfortunately, heart scans are also used to exploit people to generate revenues for doctors and the healthcare system. People are therefore often upsold to procedures such as stress nuclear tests, CT coronary angiograms, and even heart catheterizations. Recognize these traps and avoid them, while putting the vital information from a heart scan to good use for your heart disease prevention/reversal program.
About Dr. Davis, Wheat Belly and Undoctored:
Dr. Davis practiced conventional cardiology for 25 years but became discouraged with the predatory and exploitative practices of modern healthcare. He now devotes his efforts to helping people regain magnificent health without doctors or hospitals with results that are SUPERIOR to that obtained through conventional healthcare. His Wheat Belly books have sold 4 million copies in 40 countries.
We draw from the health information of the world, collaborate, share experiences, collect data, and show how to apply new health tools to achieve levels of health that you may have thought unattainable. We do all this at a time when conventional healthcare costs have become crippling.
In addition to the Wheat Belly and Undoctored books, find more of Dr. Davis' conversations at:

Hello Dr. Davis, I love your channel, I just did calcium score and my cardiologist told me I have no significant coronary disease because my score was 37, however he told me that that won’t protect my brain, as he put it that those arteries can attack my brain and I can suffer stroke” that’s exactly his words.. he is very well known MSH doc but he is immigrant as I am, so our English is not the best . So, he insists that I take statins because my LDL was 165.. few month ago. I’ve been taking statins since 2007 and I stop taking them like a year ago, because my legs were cramped and ever since I stop taking STATINS I feel great I exercise and I think I’m in great shape.. I’m 64 by the way.. what’s your take on this. How I can lower my LDL cholesterol without statins Thank you Dr.Davis

I'm so glad I found this video. I've been having discomfort in my chest for a few weeks, which could be due to anxiety issues, and I have my first cardiology consult coming up in a couple weeks. Your words have definitely given me something to keep in mind while talking with him. It's so sad that our health isn't of the utmost concern for many doctors and facilities. Instead of trying to get to the root cause of an issue, they're only concerned about how much money we'll bring in.

I've had anxiety for years and being put diagnosed with high blood pressure about 1yr&1/2 ago its been so puzzling to know exactly when I'm having heart racing palpitations early in the morning after I've already taken my hb medication, arthritis, and my auto-immune med.. I'll go back to sleep and then wake up, and if I'm still feeling those same heart palpitations I'll take my Xanax thinking it might be my anxiety and sometimes it has been, but others I've had to take my emergency hb little pill and lay down again for a bit and when I get back up, I do feel better.. so I'm now scheduled for a CT to check for possible blockage in arteries.. now I'm really confused

Very interesting. About 10 years ago my wife and I had a CAC done. Hers was 3 mine was 1187. They suggested a Nuclear Stress Test. It came back inconclusive, so they did an angiogram and it came back 20% blockage in the LAD (the widow maker.) Fast forward, I had an irregular EKG so they suggested I have a nuclear CT done. Well, the cardiologist said my heart was functioning normally. I've been taking K2 with mk7, D3 and IP6 ever since 2012. This same cardiologist told my wife's friend that she needed a stint. She went to Las Vegas to get it done because they live in Henderson NV. Doctor told her she didn't and asked who said she did. So I don't know what to believe. I certainly don't believe Dr. Bhambi in Bakersfield California.

Thank you for this information! I was frustrated my husband’s doctor and cardiologist had him get an angiogram catheterization after getting what turned out to be a false positive echo stress test. I’d wanted him to get CAC first, but they ignored my suggestion. Lots of money and unnecessary risk for nothing. His CAC we finally did after the invasive procedure was barely above zero. Mine was zero. We both just wanted to know our risk after my brother died unexpectedly at 59 of heart failure.

I'm a little worried about mine since they said, they were going to give me a beta blocker to slow my heart down, I'm not so sure that a good idea. Before all of this they gave me a stress test that I failed, then they decided to give me an atomic stress test and I told them that it was a bad idea. But they did it anyway and as soon as they did my left arm and chest started hurting, they rushed my from one side of the hospital to the other side where the emergency room was and said, I almost had a heart attack. That's my point, they didn't listen to me, they just did what someone else told them to do and almost killed me doing it. I wasn't to happy with their performance that day. But slowing my heart down, hell it might stop all together and adrenaline will definitely give me a heart attack because we all ready went threw that with the stress test. So they can't bring me back with adrenaline. Hopefully the nitro pills will save me. I had a left heart caf after the failed stress test. They are doing the Ct scan to see if it's gotten worst. So a lot of what you are saying doesn't make much since. The doctor said, the scan was to see if I had more blockage but you just said, it doesn't do that. So who is right my doctor who is the best in town or you?

Wow, p: Completely wrong. You can indeed have a CAC scan, but they just cannot score your stented artery. Because one artery is missing from the scoring process, the total score cannot be used for prognostication, but it can be used for TRACKING. Fire your doctor.

I started to have hypertension and didn't realize it until 6 weeks ago and I started on blood pressure meds for it to bring it down. I have a lot of anxiety over the past 6 weeks.

If you're having acute chest pain you should be going to the emergency room or at least a walk in clinic ASAP. That said, there are two common CT heart scans. The Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scan and the Coronary CT Angiogram (CCTA). Both involve radiation exposure but I don't think the radiation is the concern for your kidneys. The concern is the contrast agent. The CCTA uses contrast agent so the risks of using it with KD have to be weighed against the benefits. The CAC does not use contrast agent so there should be no kidney issue with this test. Best of luck. Please let us know how you are doing.

You can actually request the entire CT data set including the images. I recently did this for my two CAC scans. After receiving the data set I discovered that the one page report they sent to me and my doctor had an error. The summary report did not include 8 Agatston units of calcified plaque contributed by the lesion in my RCA so it showed my score 8 units less than the value determined by the CT scanner software. Contact the imaging center and ask for a medical records release form. If it's a big institution they probably have it on their web site. Fill it out carefully and submit it. PS: I don't have a citation for you, but I've seen a journal publication that says statistically fewer lesions is better and few number of plaques is better. At least according to this paper one big 360 Agatston units plaque would be better than 3 x 120 spread across three vessels.
