Fantastic lesson Chris, right where I am right now. You’re one of a few players look to now for tasteful, chord-based playing. Your articulated the last point really well. Take the hook or vocal melody as your starting point and make it your own. I find that singing, whether aloud or in your head and replicating on guitar really helps convey your individual character. Thanks 🍻

And thanks for such kind words regarding my playing, that really means a lot to me! 🙏🏻😊 That last point was a tricky one to articulate and I was worried I'd explained it in a way that maybe didn't make sense so thank you for saying that! I'm glad you got some value from it! The singing point is a really good one, approaching phrasing in a vocal-like manner really helps you play tastefully because it's almost impossible to over-play. Singers need to take a breath and we can picture our guitar playing in the same way!

Approaching your guitar playing like a singer is never a bad idea! Taking a break between phrases and thinking less like a 'guitarist' does a lot of good in my experience! Thanks for watching mate, I hope you're doing well! 😊👌🏻
