I sure love the sound of trains passing over diamonds. Makes me miss the diamonds at Colton. I hope to visit the diamonds at Stockton one day. Thanks for the post!

If you do, be careful. The area all around the Stockton diamonds is crime ridden. It's not what it used to be.

Were those DPU's or manned helpers on the rear of the last train? Awesome video!

DPU's. I believe this was the West Colton to Roseville manifest. Thanks for watching!

Wow, I had no idea those old Dash 8's had DPU equipment. Probably for the Cajon and Tehachapi grades?

For Tehachapi and Cajon initially, yes. I believe the 9300 series Dash-8s were some of, if not the first UP units to get DPU equipment. I shot Tehachapi in 2000 and there were no DPUs, all trains had manned helpers. By 2001, UP was using SD90MAC-Hs and C40-8Ws in DPU service and BNSF was using Dash-9s in DPU service with mixed manned helpers. I'm not aware of any regular manned helper movements over Tehachapi by either railroad after 2001.

You'll have to upload some great Tehachapi footage if you have any from the early 2000s!

I have video of the Coast Oil Cans detouring over Tehachapi in August, 2000 as well as action around Mojave and random UP/BNSF trains over Tehachapi from the same time. Lots of unpatched Espee.
