Let's be honest. Listening to music on vinyl can be quite inconvenient. While it presents it's challenges, it also gives collectors an opportunity to make a choice-to focus on the music and give it the attention it deserves. In this episode of 'Talking About Records' we discuss 3 ways to help you improve the way you listen to vinyl.
✶ Talking About Records is presented by NTX Vinyl, a boutique vinyl record shop in Highland Village, Texas (2240 Justin Rd, 75077 - located inside Painted Tree Marketplace). Open 10am-8pm, 7 days a week ✶

Interesting video. I’m with you on 1 and 2. I have a dedicated listening room that doubles up as a home cinema and I love to sit down and respect the record by actively listening to it in its entirety. With 3, I prefer watching films with my wife but, with music, I generally prefer listening on my own for a couple of reasons: (a) I get to sit in the sweet spot for sound (b) much of the music is autobiographical and has meaning to me personally. Occasionally I’ll listen with my wife or daughter (she’s 19 and has her own record based system and about 150 records already) but it’s the exception, rather than the rule.

Your friend needs to have a listening party of his closest friends. Have them listen a critique each song. That would be awesome. Enjoyed the video.

I'm like your friend that doesn't listen to the records lol. Time and space could be limited sometimes you know, but I have enough time and space to sort my collection in the most convenient way possible, and that is by genres and subgenres. So that is my advice, sorting your collection is the most pleasurable thing for me cause you are documenting the history of music, the history of rock, the history of black music, world music, metal, punk, etc. Love to watch a video from you about it.

I like to listen to albums at night with the lights off. Somehow it helps visualize the music better.

I live in a small townhome. I started my vinyl collecting by adding a vintage turntable to my new receiver, that had a phono input. But I really started in earnest, when we converted my son old room in a tv room with motorized home theater chair to help with my wife back troubles. I brought a second home theater system, all used, including a second vintage turntable. That room is private and is where I keep my records. Allows me to have the experience described in the video, and it makes a difference. M

Interesting perspective. Agree on dedicated space, even if it is on couch with headphones; I am fortunate with guest bed room as my listening room. Also making time for some serious listening is key. Re sharing, I have a different take. I like weird music, so very few people around me enjoy even vaguely the same music. However, I write instagram posts on my dedicated music feed and share it with the world. Writing about records makes me listen more closely and I discover details that may otherwise have escaped me. Receiving some feedback and getting in contact with people liking similar weird stuff is priceless. Occasional exchanges with the artists is the icing on the cake.

Subscribed. Diggin the show, man. I’m a longtime collector, but have only in the last couple of years been exploring channels on KZfaq. I’ve got a couple of “go-to’s” that I watch religiously because they’re informative, fun, and presented with a genuine love for the format and community. I really enjoy your approach, both with regard to content, and delivery without pretense or attitude. I’m in Austin, so one of these days, hopefully I get a bit further north up I-35, and find opportunity to check out your shop? Much love, today and every.

Hi again Mr. Sanders. Thank you again for all the great info. By the way, in Discogs, on many many listings, there is a number in parentheses after the the item name, and I can't figure out what it represents. Any help?

Pretty sure that indicates there is more than one artist with that identical name, so the # is to differentiate them from each other

@@NTXVinyl Thanks, I was wondering if it meant that or that that artist has 2 albums listed in discogs.

I usually only get to listen on Saturday and my dog usually ends up taking over my seat when I get up to flip the record so I end up sitting on the floor
