Isnt the term "steering by wire" meant for electronic controlled steering, where you turn the wheel and it sends a signal to the actuators to turn the wheels with no physical connection?

I know this wouldn’t really be possible with Lego, but it’d be cool sending all steering types around a racetrack to see which ones the fastest, smoothest, precise, etc.

Though the chain mechanism might fail under harsh conditions (more load, bumps might make it loose, it might snap off) the mechanism is still very much efficient

It is, in this case it's just the wording. Steering through chains is NOT what is normally referred to as “Steer by Wire” True steer by wire DOES operate on electricity
