Man does that bring back memories! All my friends and I had one and we would go and get muddy every weekend. I had the 200S. With the right pipe it sounded amazing. Always having to tinker with something but they never died. Parts before the internet were always a pain to get. Luckily, they rarely needed anything. With the type of riding we did in the South Florida muck brakes were non existent. Either the mud would slow you down or we would just rammed into something to stop the thing. Such good times! Thanks for taking me back there.

Wonderful memories for me. After one nearly killed me (hit a tree attempting a sharp 90°) as a n00b, I went on to own & master an ATC90 (don't laugh), a 200S, and a 250R. Loved them all.

On honda rear drums, there is a dot stamped into the brake shaft and an arrow stamped into the brake lever that, when aligned together, index that lever properly for optimum leverage at the correct angle .. If those marks are together,the cablebis fully adjusted inwards,and the foot lever is still out of adjustment,then it's new cable time, or BFH bracket adjustment time..

One of those 3 wheelers was my first attempt at riding anything with a foot operated transmission. The rear brakes were worn out, and the owner said they wore out real quick and didn't want to spend money on replacing them any more.. The front brake worked, but would lock up, and if you used it you had to come to a complete stop and reach down to release it. I was told to just downshift to slow down. I rode it around a bit and started down a mild grade toward the lake. I tried to downshift but it kept picking up speed. I tried several times with same result. Finally decided I better use the front brake before I got wet. When I inquired why downshifting was not working, the owner says "oh, I put synthetic oil in the engine, and you have to rev it up to get compression, and then it will slow you down". I love it when people forget to tell me important details!

My aunt had a 3 wheeler Honda that she bought new in the mid 80's. She rode it only a few times. And recently sold it.

The 185 was the first vehicle I ever drove as a kid. I love honda 3 wheelers so much.

I have one of these 200cc Big Red , shaft drive. It's solid rear suspension as well. Carried thousands of bails of hay out to the cows n horses in the winter months. I let it set with old gas in it for several years. The hi low transmission is great for moving trailers around. These things are just big enough to move big things around with , but small enough to get into really tight places. Had many four wheelers, but the Big Red did more work than any of them. The brakes are not an issue. When you head off a steep hill just put it in double low. Gear it down as you come to a stop. I traded a sound mechanical Suzuki 230 for it. The fellow I traded it out of kept trying to get old Big Red back for years after we traded. Honda really got things rite with these. The reverse would have been an issue using it as a farm vehicle. Didn't know they made one without reverse

Nice recovery on that old girl. Very similar to my SX200 4 wheeler, though mine has electric start. Mine sat in a field for 10 years before I rescued it.

The sprockets are always shot on those things as well as the chain, and FYI the airbox was water tight when it was new. I have had many of these 3 wheelers. 200x , big red ,250R and 350X, 250SX

I remember well everybody getting skinned up on these. I had a Husky 450 WR but didn't ride it like that and Ginger is no back seat driver. Blessings and Lucas is in everybody's big truck straight drive trannys and rear ends here. Good stuff AS well as the chain lube.

I had that Trike back in the day Honda 200 Big Red. Also I can confirm with the stock tires it floats pretty good.

The very first thing I do whenever I get an old atc,or atv is to change their oil and filters immediately and adjust the shift change clutch to specs seeing as so many people don't know about or understand that wet clutches and friction modifiers do not work well together for very long,plus most people don't know that there is an adjustment,nor how to properly adjust that slotted screw inside that nut...

Also,when oiling a chain,always oil or wax the inside of the chain as that is where the rollers make contact with the sprockets as well as centrifugal force tends to sling oil outwards so if the inside is lubed it will work its way through the entire link rather than being slung off after the first rotation..

The only complaint I have about this video is I kept getting distracted by that awsome looking driveway. Yeah. Peace

Atc guy here about the 200e/200es front forks, the parts to rebuild them have been discontinued for a loooong time so what we do is we swap the whole front end with either a 200m or 200s because you can get rebuild kits for them and you get better suspension also you can cut the mounting tabs off the original forks and weld them to the "new" triple tree so you can keep the factory look but have better functional suspension.

By the way, my folding bicycle has a spindle that is worn out and the other day, I used some aluminum from a beer can to fill up the wallowed space so it doesn't make a clunking noise anymore.

I got one cheap several years ago. Did some minor rebuilding, cleaned up the plastic and sold it for a nice piece of change.

I gave up on YUASA a while ago. Weize on Amz works fine for a delivery scooter. I need to change out the left side of the crankshaft on the Buddy 125. The outside front variator disk wallered out and smooshed the splines on the shaft. A used replacement only fit with some filing of the spline ends. It'll last for now. lol.

I owned a 1982 200e big red basically the same as yours, it ran great but the ride was like concrete without rear suspension

1983 was last year of chain drive big red..the tank decals are correct 83. Yes reverse and shaft drive was 84, also if the brake assemblies weren't destroyed there is a little pointer on the brake lever shaft and either a raised dot or arrow on the backing plate if the pointer travels to the dot or arrow then the cam actuating the brake shoes has traveled its limit i.e. brake lining is used up and gone.. 11:19 thats why i said if its not destroyed

Sweet machine! I have a humble request! I also have a three wheeler and it is super hard to remove the tires from the wheels because the beads are so big by design because the tires run 3-5 psi. Can you come up with a video showing some ideas how to get the tires off the wheels?! Thanks!!!

Those wheel splines are available new, as is the axle.

Honda definitely stayed consistent since they used splined axles with castle nuts on their tractors as well. 3:21, was that a twist tie through the castle nut?? 18:00, Ginger definitely knows where she wants to ride.

Memories for me of breaking my damn leg after it flipped

Those shims probably won't hold up on the rear axle hubs, I've seen it tried many times on 4-wheelers, anyway. Somebody once told me that they had success using Gorilla glue because it expands when it cures, but I haven't tried it myself. They said that it works but you have to heat the hubs with a torch to remove them. Those hubs have a light interference fit on the axle splines when they are new, so really the best way to fix it would be new hubs, if the axle splines aren't already damaged too much already. If that's the case, it might be worth trying the Gorilla glue to keep from buying a new axle and two new hubs. ADDED: Also, that bottom brake shoe looked like it was wore quite a bit. Those brakes don't normally work too good when they start getting worn over half way. Make sure you have the little dot on the end of the brake actuator shaft aligned with the mark on the brake lever and put those new shoes on and you should be able to adjust to a full pedal. Another thing, always pull the brake actuator shaft out and re-grease it whether it feels like it's easy to actuate or not. If you don't do this, a lot of times the brakes will drag on you. That's why you see a lot of people add an external spring to the brake lever. If you re-grease the brake actuator shaft, there will be no need for an external spring. These Honda rear drum brakes will only work properly if everything is set up just right and that shaft freshly greased. Sometimes that brake lever will move so freely that you would swear that there's no need to remove, clean and re-grease it, but trust me, you need to do this to make the brakes work properly and not drag.

I've done aluminum can shims for handlebars on old bicycles like that one on the rear wheel, but I could never get them to last. They seem to turn to dust on me in no time.
