Why are 2 of your 3 worse nuts in the top 9 nuts. Confused. Peanuts are in the top nine but the is the worst, yet pine nuts didnt make the top 9 but was better than peanuts??

Good to hear that walnuts are good. So many of my neighbors have these trees and they do not gather the nuts, so I do. They are free.

When I started eating RAW UNSALTED PECANS my type 2 diabetes dissapeared. A handful daily cleared me up in about a month. My A1c is 5.4 and has been in that range for over three years now. I keep pecans in my diet. I found them in the baking section at the grocery store.

I don't digest Pecans. They gang up on me and block my commode. I guess I need a ton of acid, and I can only eat a couple a day.

The three that he deems "bad" are macadamia (higher in fat), pine nuts (possible bitter taste for months, and peanuts (too complex to summarize here). But he thinks they’re all healthier than chips.

Dont avoid pistachio, some black/white opinions on ytube are useless. Eat a handful a day of more species of nuts and you will be happy :)

@@radoslavsk8591 My nut/seed intake at the moment looks like this: 15g pistachio, 15g cashews, 15g hemp seeds, 15g sunlower or pumpkin seeds, 30g almonds. So around 100g varied nuts/seeds everyday.

I make my bowl of snack with grounded flaxseeds, black sesame seeds (nourish the kidneys), hempseeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, etc and nutritional yeast, add a tsp of flaxseed oil, olive oil or MCT, mixed together and is delicious and pack with nutritions!

Some many nuts are roasted in seed oils with Omega-6 fats. Go for raw or dry roasted in my opinion.

Very true and roasting may not be a good idea if you are concerned about nutrient loss. Walnuts have Omega-3 which we need more of.

Most nuts contain way too much Omega 6, even raw. Google a list of omega 6 vs omega 3 in nuts. Nuts are not as good as told here

I’m 68, a few years ago I developed an intolerance for macadamias, cashews and pistachios, vomiting and diarrhea, WTF, what a bummer, I’ve turned to unsalted pecans and walnuts, will start eating more almonds in the future!!!

Awesome video! Encouraging to see more doctors like you these days who research the benefits of different types of food. I love cashews, macadamia nuts and peanuts although I hear cashews have a significant volume of carbohydrates and peanuts can cause inflammation. Still, I don’t think a handful is the end of the world! So glad you also referred to keto people like myself! Your comprehensive analysis on this is superb!

I had most of these symptoms since I my early teen years. I dont understand why checking glucose levels isn't part of yearly physical. I didn't find out until I was seriously ill with kidney disease. This post is excellent & everyone should see it.

He showed the Eat to Live diet book, basically a vegetarian diet. I dropped 30 pounds following this, my doctor was amazed at how quickly my A1C lowered to normal. Doc stopped bugging me to take Metformin. This guy describes the Keto diet which has good points too. I follow a diet till it's no longer easy, then switch to a new healthy diet. Works like a charm.

I bought a coffee grinder and use it to crush nuts which I sprinkle into whatever I am eating. I try to avoid the extra salt that accompanies many prepackaged nuts.

First, thank you for this video. Second, I have heard other health professionals say that nuts, especially almonds, are high in oxalates. Moreover, I have heard these same health professionals say cashews, in my opinion the best tasting nut, have more negatives than positives. Third, these same health professionals say that meat has the same benefits as nuts without the negatives. I respect you, and I respect the other health professionals. I presume nuts in moderation are healthy.

If you suffer from kidney stones, you should go easy on the nuts. They are high in oxalates which contributes to the formation of kidney stones.

My husband got calcium oxalate kidney stones due to drinking ice tea every day instead of water. He had them removed and stopped drinking ice tea and he has not had stones since. It's been over 20 years now.

Technically, peanut is legume (beans) Actually, high fat in macadamia nuts can stay full longer, and it helps to stay off snacking when you add macadamia nuts in your meal Don't worry about fat as long as it's natural

Peanuts are also very high in purines, which can cause painful GOUT attacks. I learned this the hard way. If you have problems with gout, stay away from peanuts!

@@luisdetomaso867 yes totally agree. You can definitely get all the nutrients you need from a well-planned plant-based diet. The way the animal products are raised can also have an impact on their nutrition, so going for wild-caught fish and pasture-raised meat and eggs is a good choice. At the end of the day, it's all about having a balanced diet, regardless of what you eat.

I had serious problems falling sleep. A friend brought me a bag of pistachios,.. I started w 12 1hr bfr going to bed,… and it really worked. I have started having mix of seeds walnuts, almonds, pistachios on my daily diet. No junk snacks,.. grab a handful of seeds and feel full,… really works

Thanks, been trying to tell so many health care workers to tell their diabetic and diabetic leg ulcer patients to substitute mixed nuts or almonds & walnuts along with other nuts as a snack or two daily will help with blood sugar control along with a combination of a timed fasting and a Keto styled diet one simply cannot beat it for a return to normal health. 113/53 at 253 lbs b..p. is pretty good for a 75 year old fat man who in 2009 weighed 427...with now all cholesterol levels well within the normal range including lipids; and an A1C of 5.9.

Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.

I don't believe salt is an issue. I did some reading and there is no real evidence of salt being a problem but it is essential - the medical research appears to actually show low salt is a much greater problem.

I buy mine at a Whole Foods store where they sell them in bulk, and buy just a small bag. Eat two on a Wednesday, then rotate my nuts the other days-walnuts on Thursday, cashews on Friday, pecans on Saturday, etc.; not my exact rotation, but you get my drift. So 10 Brazil nuts can last a whole month, because they are so big you only need 2 a week rotating your nuts, and they’ll last the whole month.

We raise a sport of Japanese Walnuts called Heartnuts. Many people don't know much about them. They have a soft texture, like a Pecan, but I think the taste is close to Brazil nuts. Easy to crack out whole nuts. Heartnuts really taste great without the strong flavor you sometimes get with Black Walnuts. English walnuts are very good, but sometimes their tannin content can be too much, especially with some of the varieties of Carpathian English Walnuts. Heartnuts don't have the astringent taste of Carpathian or some English Walnuts. They seem do grow very well here in SW Michigan.

Pistachios are the best tasting nut. I love getting those bags of already shelled ones when they're on sale. Almonds are second. They still taste great. They're cheaper and can be used in more places like with chocolate.

Live pistachios. They lower blood pressure too and cure hunger cravings for sugar. Just don't eat too much of them, they have a lot of calories

I use almonds in curries, crumble topping, almonds flour to avoid gluten, chopped nuts on salads, soups, as texture on lots of dishes.

Nuts are better, fresher if we buy them with shell on. But it is hard to find nuts with shell on , except during Christmas time. Nuts sold in packages without refrigeration can be rancid. Even if they are sold in the cold section, who knows that nuts , with no shell, were already exposed to air without refrigeration before they were put in packages , travelled, and then refrigerated in the grocery store!? Anyway, I still buy nuts that are stored in the cold section.

Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc and are therefore particularly recommended for prostate health. I always eat them, together with some walnuts, in my morning oatmeal. I hope my breakfast routine makes up somewhat for some of my dietary sins.

Great video Doc, however you missed a BIG issue particularly with peanuts---- the omega 6 fatty acids FAR out weigh the omega 3 fatty acids which is not good at all--- especially if you like a lot of peanut butter, I used to eat a pound a week of peanut butter---NO MORE !

Everything in life is risk vs benefit. A tablespoon or three provides healthy nutrients and there is data on benefits. Eating a ton of nuts is a different story.

I'm currently on a pkt. Of mixed raw nuts I purchased from my local Asda store. The selection contains, walnuts, cashew nuts, hazelnuts and almonds. 2 cider vinegar tablets morning and evening seems to be helping maintain a healthy appetite. Good to read Your post. Ps. He talks of 1oz of nuts but thats barely a taste. Good luck!. 🤣✌

Roasted in "what kind of oil?" Best to buy your own raw and in bulk then roast them yourself. You can mix pumpkin seeds in there too:)

Pili nuts are great for vitamin E. If "activated" they are even better. What about lectins in the skins of almonds I think? Pili nuts are wild and harvested in the Bicol region of the Philippines. Do you recommend raw or roasted nuts?

Hi Dr. Tom. Great video, I really appreciate it. I have a question. I absolutely love peanuts but I have diverticulitis. Which peanut (s) would you consider safe to eat? Also, I take a beta blocker Corag which lowers my blood pressure and heart rate because of a previous heart attack so I’m concerned about my blood pressure being lowered from peanuts. Any suggestions on this. Also, I have been hospitalized for a bacterial infection when one of the diverticulitis pockets filled with peanut particles a few years ago and I’m just concerned about that. Is there any of these that actually digest such as legumes? Thank you.

I have heard presentations that food causing diverticulitis (nuts and seeds specifically), has been debunked. I'm not saying it could happen, but it is now just generally accepted that this was a myth in the past. This might just have been. Convenient thing to blame it on (or might have really happened), but there is no study or proof that nuts can cause diverticulitis

I discovered in my colonoscopy at age 50 that I had diverticulosis. They told me to “avoid constipation and straining.” What they didn’t tell me was that eating an entire bag of cheesy popcorn for dinner while driving would LEAD to constipation and straining, followed by my one and only case of diverticulitis in the ten years since. So I still eat popcorn, just not a whole bag at once! I never stopped eating nuts. And I carry a few Stool Softener pills when I travel, just in case I make an equally foolish food choice in the future! 😉

I too have diverticulosis, which has put me in the hospital more than once, usually after eating too many vegetables at once. All that fiber caused extra pressure on the diverticuli. As far as nuts, except for one, I have never had a problem because I am a super chewer. That one nut is almonds. They are a very hard nut, and even after super chewing, they are just too irritating. Btw, my doctor has allowed me to keep amoxicillen on hand for flareups. I only need to take it for a day or two. The trick is to take it immediately as soon as the pain starts. Works like a charm every time, and keeps me away from the hospital. I urge you to try it.

Quit eating peanuts, eat tree nuts. Peanuts often contain mycotoxins, things derived from corn often contain mycotoxins as well.(Fungal Poisons)

Almonds are very high in oxalate but all nuts can do damage, not just to the kidneys. Perhaps we should not eat them all year round. Seasonality is a good way to eat, but everything is pretty much available all year; not best for optimal health in my opinion.

I always keep unsalted nuts in the house and when I'm craving chips, I grab 1 ounce of nuts. @@feleciawallace8420 Hi Felecia. Try portioning your nuts. Don't eat the nuts from the packaging or container. For example: One portion of nuts is 1 ounce. Portion out 1 ounce of nuts in plastic zip lock bags. If I don't portion how many nuts I eat, I'll eat WAY too many nuts. Try that suggestion. I hope it works out for you, Felecia. 🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜

From a personal perspective, there isn't much opportunity in terms of job advancement and there are not many good paying full time jobs, only part-time minimum wage jobs. Another option for you would be roasted. Flavored garbanzo beans. If you make them yourself, I have a recipe. Take a can of garbanzo beans. Rinse well, add 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, chopped 1 teaspoon salt maybe some ground pepper. Of course you can alter these for your taste. Might want to reduce the salt but anyway roast for a half hour at 3:50 and it makes a wonderful snack

The increase in peanut allergies is a result of not exposing them to small amounts as kids. I'm 72 and all us kids ate peanuts frequently. I don't remember friends getting any of these New Age allergies. I'll concede there are people that are deadly allergic to peanuts but nutritional scientists are finding that many were never fed peanuts or even peanut butter when they were young. Exposing them to small but increasing amounts of peanuts as kids seems to free them from a life of peanut fear.

OMG! Just saw your #1 nut is almond…Reason they could be making people thin is because of all the anti-nutrients (OXALATE) in them. All the nutrients in these nuts are bonded to oxalate. I became almost anorexic after being on the Virgin diet and my spinach smoothies.

Peanuts are earth nuts... Year on year the bottom is loaded up with pesticides and fertilizers... Inevitably some of it ends up inside your precious body... Your kidneys and liver have got better things to do and should be spared as much as possible. There are enough others to choose from (yes they are a little more expensive but you need not much) Take care 🍀 Stay healthy ❤💪

Love the pistachios especially the ones that still have their shell on so you can’t eat them quite as fast they are so delicious and now I realize how nutritious they are to thank you for all your info very informative

If one loves peanut butter better to buy Organic Valencia Peanut butter. More expensive but a much better peanut for the body.❤️

Technically, not all nuts are nuts. But they still taste great……almonds and Cashews are “drupes”, peanuts are legumes like peas…..and maybe chestnuts should be in this list……..since pecans and walnuts are in the same family?

I soak mine for better nutrient absorbing. almonds taste really good on a overnight soak and squeeze off the brown skin.

1) nuts 🥜 are the most nutritious snack and chips are the worst type of snack! 1. High fiber 2. Vitamin E 3. Magnesium 4. Manganese 5. Folate 6. Zinc 1) peanuts 🥜 2) hazelnuts 3) Brazilian Nuts 🥜 4) macadamia nuts 🥜 -more fats 5) pecan nuts 🥜 6) cashews 7) walnuts 8) pistachios 9) almonds 10) pine 🌲 nuts 🥜 11) peanuts 🥜-worst nuts because of a fungus associated with liver cancer ♋️

Best nuts *9-peanuts (legume) 8-hazelnuts 7-brazil nuts (selenium, so do not eat too much) *6-macadamia nuts 5-pecans 4-cashews 3-walnuts 2-pistachios 1-almonds (number one!) Worst (yes, in conflict with best nuts😳) *3-macadamia/higher fat -eat with other nuts 2-pine nut (syndrome) *1-peanuts (toxic mold issue)

Exactly have to watch using almond flour. I do drink water with lemon/braggs apple cider vinegar/ stevia, dash of cayenne on ice. Love it. Helps to stop stones from forming.

I thought peanuts are not good for those with gut problem and thyroid patients. Even though I love nuts and used to eat a lot (cheap in my country too), I used to get fibroadenoma every time I eat a lot of it. So is my friend.
