Insightful: “What your saying is as important as perception… I’m glad you were teachable/receptive to the feedback. Knowing your audience, timing, tone, and other factors are important for emotional intelligence. So this thing about writing things down was something my last company loved to do and i love it. As a tech lead working on a complex domain (healthcare) we need a lot of collaboration between pharmacists, legal, design, devs etc. And it's the best way to check the history of the company to understand the WHY. These companies tend to hire bunch of contractors so having this paper trail is super important in preventing knowledge being lost. But secondary it's a great learning experience for everyone. Most tech leads tend to enforce the architecture and then tell others how it's done. But I've had a lot of great results using the document approach.

I tried using ChatGPT since March 2023 and the time it takes for me to explain EXACTLY what code I need is often longer than the time it takes me to actually write the whole thing. On the other hand it's very good at processing lists. So when I have a class with properties from an array, it is of great help. Unfortunately that happens quite rare.

I just moved to San Francisco. I am homeless. Staying in a shelter. I want to become a software engineer. You are a huge inspiration to me. Please give me some advice. People all around me and my caseworker are saying I cannot be a software engineer unless I go to College and that I can go to College for free because all residents of California are given the opportunity to go to College for free as long as it is a college called City College.
