As someone from a rice cultivating region that uses it a lot, I thought cooking rice was as obvious as avoiding putting forks into electrical sockets. I don't understand how or why she had a wok, and somehow at the same time zero knowledge about any of the other stuff. Why did she know to get a wok, but not too boil the rice? I'm so confused

When Egg Fried Rice is cooked properly, damn it's delicious. My garlic is fried to a nice golden color and then immediately removed from the skillet and onto a plate with paper towels. It's delicious before I even put it in the rice mixture. I also pour about 2/3rds of the oil out into a container and use it for other foods since it is now flavored. Kay does not like it when just about everyone can cook rings around her. Even her own son is a better cook.

I agree-totally disgusting. 2 things though. I am pretty sure chicken was not raw. Looked like she sliced up some sandwich meat ( which is pre cooked). Also, look up RiceARoni recipes. With those, you brown the uncooked rice in oil, then add broth and boil/steam the rice as usual. That is what I thought she was going to do, HOW THE HECK could you do that in a wok? But I was wrong, obviously. What the heck did she think she was doing???? Keep up the good work, Tomodachi Table!

Thank you for the comment Anna Banana! Glad to hear the chicken was not raw, we don't need a biohazard on top of a fire hazard! You are right, RiceARoni or paella and risotto all call for gently stir frying the rice before you add the liquid - this was completely off into outer space! It's actually not an induction stove - those work with a magnet field. It's an oldschool heating coil stove, and the purple color is infrared light from the glowing coils picked up by the camera. Try this: aim your smartphone camera at the front of your TV's remote control and press a button. you should see a purple light - that's the same :) )

I'll be honest, my family never made fried rice gowning up, we always ordered it from restaurants. So up until the age of 14 or so, I thought fried rice LITERALLY meant "fried rice" lol. It wasn't until I saw it being made on some cooking channel did I realize it was made with leftover rice. 🤣🤷‍♂️

I can’t believe you actually watched this >.< I cried the first time I saw this. Poor Eric! Watching your hands instinctively curl in to protect your fingers when you watched her cutting the garlic with a paring knife made me so sad. And Makoto yelling “chili jam” at the cremated garlic made me giggle. Is that the new swear word at tomodachi table? Anything goes wrong and... “chili jam!” 😂 When she dumped the raw rice in, my soul shriveled up and died. Watching you react the same way hurt my heart. Uncle Roger, Yuya Wanobee, George Japan and the tomodachi table all had the same reaction as I did to the whole thing. I beg you please, PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEE!,! Do NOT recreate this recipe! Food poisoning is not worth the views 😂 please! 🙏🏻

Kay's cooking is something else altogether. She tries very hard, but I'd never want to eat anything she makes whatever the cuisine. However during this covid she's been the best thing to cheer you up and make you laugh.

Helpful tip when cooking with oil, if u have things that need to be chopped and you are a slow chopper, don't turn on the oil until you are almost done chopping otherwise Kay's Chernobyl will happen in Ur kitchen

It's worse than raw chicken...she's using deli meat chicken (the kind you put on sandwiches). Also oyakudon is a favorite of mine...let's hope this woman never attempts it.
