Good that you brought a sweater , the trains in Malaysia tend to crank up the AC like crazy 😂other than that the Malaysian trains are super convenient and nice to take!

Hi Luke, regarding the taxi in Penang. There was a junction at 38:35 between the ferry (Left) and Penang Sentral (Right). If u had turn to the left you could've save yourself RM59. The ferry is only RM 5 and it only takes 15 mins to cross the ocean. Taxi is a scam especially when they target tourists.

why no grab? Did you know where can get the grab if ferry closed?
@sjneow
@sjneow 7 ай бұрын
@@cedricyoung25 you need to get out of the building, maybe cross a road and get Grab from the roadside, with the Taxi's samseng attitude, the Grab drivers don't dare to go into Penang Sentral to pickup.

Luke, usually people don't take the taxi from Butterworth to Georgetown because Georgetown is on the island of Penang. The best, more convenient and much much much cheaper option is the ferry and then taxi from the other side of the pier (on the island). I was shouting noooo then you decided to get a grab/taxi to the island. Ferry cost about RM2 from Butterworth to Georgetown. That price is not rip-off - it's an official price with taxi as you got it from the counter itself. You can get ripped-off if you negotiate the taxi off the counter. Taxi is pricier than Grab in Malaysia. Confusion at the counter: RM64 for you RM42 is for the other guy wearing grey jumper.

I'm a Malaysian who's been taking the train for the past 5 years. I agree with you on how hard it is to scan our QR code at the automatic gates. But I learn that it scans better if you print out the ticket on a paper than scanning them digitally thru your phones :) I print my tickets out all the time cuz the queue behind me stresses me out LOL

Hi Luke. Next time you ride the train and need to take the lift, always look around you first before following the crowd. When you arrived in Butterworth, the lift is actually just on the other side of the stairs. Most well known public transportation stations (or platforms) in popular cities in Malaysia, have been upgraded for easier mobility access- an elevator, and maybe also an escalator in addition to the stairs. You just need to look for the signboards or ask around. Anyways, hope you have a great time in Penang.

@@raymondchiew50 There are proper signboards, however people tend to pick the easiest accessed entry and exit points. This being the stairs where they got out from instead of checking to see if there is an escalator a bit further away. Hope this helps.

Thats why I hate signaging system in KL Sentral. They are made confusing. Directions are not well placed, not clear big and bold and easy to navigate. I donno which aunty is in charge in interior design n layout there that confirmed many of us get stressed before boarding our train. The most obvious is there is NO CLEAR SIGNAGES FOR KL MONORAIL!!! I believe it shud be put in gigantic size at the top of that escalators toward the kl Sentral mall. The design are very chaotic here and not clean at all. Overall, this terminal needs a whole overhaul n redesigned to be a minimalist spacious cool space.

Hai Luke..!!! I'm sorry that you have a little problem with the transportation. It's actually easier and cheaper if you take the ferry to the island and then from the ferry terminal it's easier for you to get a grab once you're on the island.... it becomes expensive when you take a taxi because they paid for the toll when using the bridge plus grab is always cheaper because they don't pay rent to the company. Arriving Butterworth Penang Sentral, You shud take ferry instead. It's better frequency now n super cheap abt half 1 dollar I thnk wth the best experience. Everyone hates dealing with taxi drivers they are normally rude!

Travelling used to be more convenient, 20 years ago. I used to take a train ride from Ipoh to KL for only 10 rm. Not much walking at the stations. There was a buffet coach where you can have a good meal. When I was a college student in the 70s, I used to take a taxi, shared with 3 other passengers, from Ipoh to KL, door to door service only for 8 rm! Midway, the taxi would stop, for us to have a nice lunch. Nowadays it would cost 500 rm or more, if there is even such a service! Luckily we can virtually travel with you,

To be honest, the food at the ETS cafe (nasi lemak rendang) might be better than the complimentary business food. And usually they will be stocked upon reaching Ipoh.

Yeah.. Taxi drivers can be quite hostile towards Grab drivers in some areas. But frankly, the last time me we took the ERL to penang, we got on the ferry, and took grab when we are on the island. Much easier to take grab from there. Some Grab drivers don't want to go on the bridge because of the jam, or just inconvenient for them somehow.. 🤷

Grab's convenience can vary by location, for sure.

It's a pity that the lounge didn't provide rich food, otherwise everything would be perfect! It’s great that the train has its own screen to use! Overcooling of air conditioners in confined spaces is a common problem in Asia. It is really incomprehensible! I support you. That cup of coffee must be at least eight points full. The cake must be at least two pieces and the flavors must be different! The bento dishes on the train are really not as good as those in Japan and Taiwan, but if the bento is included in the train fare, then it’s okay! It's not your fault that you get lost in the train station, they should have clear signs or have enough attendants at the alighting area to assist passengers! 64 is 22 yuan more than 42. I wonder if this kind of confusion is normal in Malaysia? This is illegal in my country and the driver will be punished by the taxi company! Thanks for sharing your train journey, have a nice trip and take care! 👍🥰🙏

Their currency is ringgit, not yuan. Also the taxi driver didnt mark up the price. Rm64 was shown on the screen for Luke's destination. Rm42 was the fare for the other person who wanted to go to a different destination. It was a simple misunderstanding on Luke's part due to the language barrier
