In May, I will be running the 2024 Copenhagen Marathon. This video documents my first 30 days of marathon training as I rebuild my fitness following an injury before Christmas.

It's very interesting, the science is that we actually lose fitness much much more slowly than we would think, of course depending how active you are in general during the time of not running... total bed rest loses fitness pretty quickly though!! This year I've been having my first winter of truly serious training, and I've really learned just how energy draining it can be out on the hilly trails in constant mud!! BUT I know that's making me even stronger come the spring/summer!! Hope you continue enjoying getting back into it again James!!

Thanks Bev! Sounds like you're having an amazing training block! Yeah, total agree. I think I probably had 2 months of no or bad running and the injury affected my running mechanics / efficiency. Combine that with terrible sleep & diet and it feels like I lost a lot of fitness in that 2 month period. Slowly coming back now though in time for Copenhagen!

I'll see you at Copenhagen Marathon James! I'm aiming for sub 3. Previous pb is 3:27, but feeling good lately. Good luck with the training and keep the great videos coming!

Thanks for sharing all the sides of running, injury and time off is something we've all got to face at some point, not just the good times. Wishing you all the best with building back your training, you're gonna get there!

Thanks! Yeah, the fitness is slowly coming back now but injuries/time off are always part of the journey!

Great vid James. Loving the scenic footage and paired music. I've also signed up for the NDR50. So hopefully I get to say Hi on Sunday. Good luck on all the mara training!

Good to see you back mate. Keep chipping away and it’ll start happening again.

Cheers mate! The endurance is pretty much back now but starting to working on the higher intensity efforts now. Seen on strava you've been putting in some serious vert. Looking forward to seeing how you get on at Buffalo Stampede!

It is so interesting to me what you consider "not-fit". It just goes to show, that we really all, in the end, are running our very own, very individual race - and that ultimately, this is the only really relevant metric when it comes down to it.

Yeah, we all have such different perspectives. I guess for me it's that my fitness dropped so much in a 2 month period to a level that I hadn't been at in a long time.

Thanks! No worries, I like to reply to the comments but it's been a busy month so I was a bit slow getting around to them all!

Well done on getting back to fitness, and enjoy the NDR50k tomorrow. I did it a couple of years ago and would love to give it another go (couldn’t make this years race though).

Supermarket car park for a flat speed session. Great idea. Why haven’t I thought of this before

Definitely! Really good lighting and if you go at the right time, super quiet.

It's been a while since this video, but still... If I understood correctly, were you trying to learn Swedish? For some reason? It wouldn't be, I suppose, because of the Copenhagen marathon, since if that were the case you were somewhat wrong. Well, it is Denmark and not Sweden where Copenhagen is, being the capital... I hope that you are fully recovered from the knee injury, and that you have not had others that have made you have to rebuild your physical form, endurance, resistance, etc...

Gøy! Når du lærer deg Svensk så forstår du også Norsk og Dansk. Been following you the last year, love the videos. Keep em up!

Thanks! Yeah, it's amazing how similar the languages are. Never really experienced that with English.

What happened to your knee? You'll be back in no time. 👌 I'm also preparing for my first marathon, it's going to be my first one. 🤞
@jamesday16 ай бұрын
Not sure to be honest! I think it was just a case of high volume training stressing the joint and inflammation/stress started to cause problems with the knee. It recovered pretty well with rest and recovery. Good luck with your first marathon!
