Isn’t there decathlon in the US? It’s usually the best place to find quality gear at entry level price for most sports (seems to vary depending on the country you live in).

Decathlon makes running shorts with a back zip pocket. They are really good quality and affordable. I have a pair of shorts which I bought 2 years ago and I still wear it.

I think Nike do those shorts for about £30-50. Not sure how much your Patagonia were. Maybe they won’t last as long either but I’ve had mine for a while and still feel good.

I think your suggestion of shoe is misguided, for new runners , a good shoe can make the difference. I think as you get better and more advanced in running and your feet adapt, the shoe matters less. Which seems to be where you are. At the same time, expensive shoes don't make people better without putting in the time. Just saying there is some nuance there when it comes to shoes. Cheap shoes are often uncomfortable ill-suited.

Thanks for advices! I got a chip pair of shorts a few years ago. It’s not so pretty or special, but it has one little advantage-two pockets with a zipper on a both sides, where I can put my phone keys and case from my airpods. So it definitely worth it.

I live in the Dominican Republic in where the weather is almost always the same all the time so we don't need much gear other than a pear of sneakers and short pants. As well as you I prefer black and white shoes and darker clothes, and for that reason I tend to buy Nike sneakers, even thought I wold like to try Hoka's.

I’ve been running regularly for over 7 years and agree with everything you said. One thing I like to do is look for good quality items on sale. Look for last year’s model of the shoe you like. Lululemon marks down their items on Thursdays. Make a list of things you want/need and purchase them on Black Friday/Amazon Prime Day/etc. I also recommend thinking in color: look for running gear in colors that make you feel good. You’ll stand out in a crowd and good looking running gear will excite you run more often.

When you start walking in the video, is that to lower your heart rate a bit, because you are talking to the camera, or just because you felt like it? :) Keep up the good videos and good luck for the 90k!

I've bought a similar pair of shorts (I believe they were in the trail running section) from Decathlon. They are really thin and the fabric is slightly stretchy and they have a similar pocket at the back and one in front with a zipper for keys. I use them for running around the city and they cost the equivalent of ~17£.

Love the review. And truly respect the effort. But as a Greek, I laughed out loud at 12:50 where you said that the heat came and you said 25 degrees. I pray for temps to be that low from May to October. Regardless of that. Running in 33 degrees without shade is no joke. Bravo mate.

This was perfect! Thank you! I also have a mom who had done a handful of ultras 4x 100. Super grateful and I started consistently running since Feb. have my first half this Saturday and first 50k this November. I’m gonna try to apply as much as I can with this to my half and see what I can take for my 50k. My biggest worry as of right now is stomach issues I just do t wanna deal with that. Nutrition for me personally is a bit overwhelming to deal with so this video helped with that, making notes of what feels good for my body and what I should avoid.
