Thanks for sharing. I love that you're not rating the songs but just sharing that they meant (and mean) something to you. There's a lot to be said for pure musical beauty. I'm of your "vintage" and my top 30 would always include 2 from Surrealistic Pillow: "Today" and "Coming Back to Me". Hauntingly beautiful, amazing vocals with Grace and Marty, ringing folk guitar, and some recorder!

To start with love the castle on the Donovan album, Bodiam is just a magical castle, local to me so visit frequently. That aside I watched the 45rpm Audiophile video the other night and was impressed he ventured into the 1980's with some of his choices, I quickly rattled off some of my favourite songs that came to mind and stopped at 30. Varied and different from yours and Michaels tastes but that's the joy of music, be a dull place if we all liked the same thing, in no particular order: Reverend Beatman... I'll take care of you The Smiths... This Charming Man The Maytals... Pressure Drop Jesus and Mary Chain... Never Understand The Undertones... Teenage Kicks Don Williams... Your My Best Friend Little Walter... My Babe The Small Faces... All or Nothing Japan... Ghosts Slaves... Hey! Fleetwood Mac... Need Your Love So Bad Ike & Tina Turner...Funkier Than a Mosquita's Tweeter Wham... Club Tropicana Hound Dog Taylor... It Hurts Me Too Peggy Lee... Black Coffee The High Learys ... Idolise Your Woman The Bonnevilles... Good Suits and Fightin' Boots Hollowbelly...I'm Old Sister Rosetta Tharpe... Didn't It Rain Dolly Parton... I Will Always Love You Luther Ingram... If it's all the same to you babe Cocteau Twins... Pearly Dew Drops Drop Buff Medways... Archive from 1959 Andre Williams... The Car with the Star Patti Austin... Take Away The Pain Stain Joy Division... She's Lost Control Prince...Little Red Corvette Natural Ites and The Realistics...Picture On The Wall John Lee Hooker... I'm Bad Like Jesse James The Monsters... I'm a Record Junkie If anyone read to this point...Thanks and at least check out a couple of the 'weird' things I enjoy.

Some great picks. I would probably pick "Madame George" off Astral Weeks but I could almost pick any song of that album. It was great to see "After The Goldrush," "Into My Arms" and "Dock Of The Bay" make the list. "Desperados Under The Eaves" is definitely in my top five songs.

brilliant list mazzy...(nice mick impersonation)....so many special ones to me (being close to the same age)...and i won't do 30, but here are a few that touched me,,,, 1) elvis 'hound dog'...when i heard that song on the radio, my life changed...it made music come alive and my soul set on fire...i started singing and never stopped...2) chet baker 'my funny valentine'...my favorite version of my favorite song of all time...the lyrics are brilliant when you hear the right singer attached to them....chet is the man....3) bob dylan 'knockin; on heaven's door'....this one pulled my soul out and sang it from the gutter....this was the atmosphere i was, growing up in new york...so perfect...4) simon and garfunkel 'the sound of silence'...hello darkness my old friend...a breath of new york air...it feels different than other oxygen...this song is the inhale and exhale of my city and my soul........peace always....rocky

Though you were gonna say "New York Serenade" for my favorite Bruce LP... "The Wild The Innocent" After The Goldruch is the most powerful song, for sure, on "Goldrush" hard to pick a #1 though.. Love that Warren Zevon LP Yeah.. "Waterloo Sunset" is awesome.. saw Terry Reid perform it in L.A. at The Joint" with a whole line of notables, at the long running open mike night, back in 2002..

"Whiter Shade of Pale" is one of those songs that I've heard so many times, but I never get tired of it. "Mercy Street" is also my favorite Gabriel song. The Sailin' Shoes version of "Willin" is my favorite. Very cool Cohen choice. That's one of his albums that I'm not familiar with at all. "Waterloo Sunset" is perfect. Top 10 song of the 1960s for sure. Great list. Glad you took on this endeavour. Favorite songs is a lot harder for me than albums. No songs about Jesus?

Nice picks brother. If I was to do my list I think we'd share quite a few. Allison is just a perfect pop song and yes, as good as Willin' is by Little Feat, Linda's is even better. My favorite Little Feat song is probably Roll um Easy. Hell, side one of Dixie Chicken is just about fucking perfect. American Tune would be on my list as well. Such a gorgeous song. Oh, and my favorite Randy Newman song is probably Louisiana 1927. Kudos also, on selecting Nightswimming, After The Gold Rush, and especially Waterloo Sunset.

A great and very inspiring - thanks. I really like that you focus on the music (text, arrangements etc.) instead of the technical side. Thanks Mazzy. Music is such a personal thing. For those of us who grew up with these albums and songs, all our favorites and most deeply felt are going to be different. But that's why I enjoy your thoughts. Another point of view from someone who lived through the era. Would I have picked these? Maybe Whiter Shade of Pale. Maybe not. Hey, it's your channel. Friend of the Devil is a great song and probably when I began to understand the Dead. Music is so deep and so personal and limns our lives and each of us has lived a common though different experience. Most of the time...

My favorite on 5D is What's Happening. Mr. Spaceman is a close second. But I think Younger Than Yesterday is a better album over all...

As a 1st generation American, that song by Paul Simon really hits a chord in me as well, and it catches me off guard sometimes!

Waterloo Sunset . Def Leppard’s album of cover songs is called Yeah ! Do yourself a favour and listen to their version of Waterloo Sunset . I think that it’s great . I liked your list , although mine would be quite different of course . I’ll throw in a few examples : Beatles : In My Life Rolling : Stones : Paint It , Black. ( Ruby Tuesday would be second ) Jimi Hendrix : All Along the Watchtower Pink Floyd : Time / Great Gig in the Sky Bob Dylan : Positively 4th Street. ( Like a Rolling Stone and Simple Twist of Fate are right there with it ) The Who : Pure & Easy. ( version from Odds & Sods ) Gerry & the Pacemakers : Ferry Cross the Mersey Marmalade : Reflections of My Life Bruce Cockburn : All the Diamonds in the World Jethro Tull : Aqualung Yes : Roundabout Bruce Springsteen : Thunder Road ( Slow live version from Live 1975 - 1985 ) Zombies : Time of the Season Genesis : Cinema Show Dire Straits : Tunnel of Love Doobie Brothers : Dark - Eyed Cajun Woman Supertramp : School I’ll stop there . Good video !!

@@mazzysmusic Thanks ! Of course it's incomplete , as I think I only mentioned about 18 tracks or so . It would also include some Joni Mitchell , Elton John , David Bowie , Doors , Led Zeppelin , Queen , Gordon Lightfoot and a few others . Cheers !

I think if I were to do this I would have to go by genres or decades or some other breakdown. An all time favorite could be Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord by Pharoah Sanders or My Adorable One by Joe Simon or The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore by The Walker Brothers or so many others I have listened to countless times and will never tire of.
